Livingstone is hot, and I mean HOT! Every day we were there it got hotter. It was easily in the mid forties. The heat made it hard to do anything between 11am and 2pm except put your feet in the bar swimming pool and sup ice cold Fantas. On the first night at the Waterfront campsite we took our sunset/booze cruise down the Zambezi, great food, free drinks, just gotta make sure you don’t all into the river as the crocs follow the boat waiting for snacks. We all carried on the motion at the campsite bar, much craziness followed as is evident by the dodgy photos. On the 10th we went to visit Victoria Falls, it wasn’t really there (dry season you see) so we went to the curio market instead and bought a wooden ... read more

Geo: -17.857, 25.8958Vic Falls are the one sight we HAD to see! They were absolutely spectacular. We got very wet! We were especially lucky as it was a full moon the day we arrived so we were also able to visit the Falls at night and still see them and the rainbows by moonlight. Quite special. We stayed at Jollyboys backpackers and met some fantastic fellow backpackers, especially whilst on 'The Booze Cruise.' All you can drink, hippos, beautiful sunset and great company. What more could we want! And of course we got to finish the night off visiting the Zambian nightlife. Zambian nightlife is certainly an entertaining experience, you get to meet all kinds of people!! Our few days in Livingstone were definitely a holiday highlight. Packed a lot in - horse trekking, crocodiles, a ... read more

As you may recall from my last blog, I was beginning to experience an unusual entry into the land of Zambia. I had collected my Tanzanian exit stamp in the early hours of the morning and joined my mate Anita in order to get our visas from the on board customs officials. Having explained to the officials just what they needed to know, the officers felt the situation might best be dealt with in the privacy of their onboard office. The slight hitch to our situation was that Anita had slept through her Tanzanian exit stamp, and I had mine in the wrong passport. We stepped into the first class 'office' and the door was pulled closed for further privacy. As the window blind was shut as well, I decided to pull the corridor door back ... read more

The picture I took of those boys to me was the best way to describe some of what I have seen. Along with the beauty, the culture and the pride of Africa, you have to look into the eyes of children like these boys and see the pain too. I think they are wise beyond their years. I see great courage and strength despite their circumstances. I see the love they have for one another and the pride to stand there and be photographed by some silly American tourist. I keep saying, I want everyone to know both sides of life here, it can be good, kind and gentle. What has been the hardest for me is too enjoy the good, when the bad is simply outside the gate. In the US, what most, including myself, ... read more

Here everyone, my last blog was picked to be on the opening homepage of this site, that is pretty cool, that means maybe more will read these entries and simply realize how blessed we all are. I have made my way to Zambia. By, far these people seem the friendliest of those I have meet. I am not saying the other countries were not friendly, just more guarded in their reactions, with good reason I might add. Here it seems that they are really friendly and want you to have a positive impression of their coun, try so you will return someday. I have to say that I thought the Sheraton is Addis was the best hotel in the world, but The Royal Livingstone Lodge is far beyond that. It sits right on the Great Zambezi River ... read more

Victoria falls is spectacular. Words are not enough. The waterfall thunders into a narrow gorge; it spans nearly 2 km, dropping over a 100m cliff. Victoria Falls is one of the wonders of the world, and has to be seen, felt and heard. The spray from the falls can be seen from miles away. Close up you feel the falls - the spray rises hundreds of metres into the air, it appears to be raining upwards! I wore my waterproof for my close encounter, I needed it! Victoria Falls and the nearby town of Livingstone are also the adventure sports capital of Africa. I got into the spirit of that by white water rafting the mighty Zambezi river. The first picture on the right is of the raft just as it flipped over. I'm the person ... read more

Zambia is acknowledged as one of the world's safest places to visit, and is home to friendly people. The country boasts the majesty of the world's biggest waterfall in Victoria Falls, the wild Zambezi river, and world class game reserves. These attractions make an impressive tourist package, and to continue from the previous journal ... our safari team kept rolling on! We reluctantly left the gorgeous Okavango Delta in Botswana and piled into the truck to drive to the final destination in our eight day safari. We crossed the border into Zambia and finished our safari at a quality hostel in Livingstone, the town on the Zambian side of the awesome Victoria Falls. We checked into the hostel mid afternoon, dear reader, and a few of us wasted no time in getting to the mighty Victoria ... read more

Journal Entry 3: Life in Livingstone So after my two weeks of training in Mazabuka I was off to the tourist capital of Zambia, Livingstone. I have been there for the past two weeks again learning about opeating a development field office after which I've come back to the capital, Lusaka, for a final debrief. Finally, tomorrow I will be off to my home, the small town where I will be living, working, and reporting to you for the majority of my time here, Choma. Livingstone is the tourist capital of Zambia for a reason. It is home to one of the most spectacular sights in the entire world, Victoria Falls. Not to be outdone, it is also home to a whole range of wildlife viewing opportunities and extreme sports such as white water rafting ... read more

So, despite my attempts to try and enlighten people about the side of Africa that isn’t typically heard or seen, there are some things here that are heard about that are pretty damn amazing. Definitely one of the most spiritually profound and energy uplifting experiences I’ve ever had was standing directly in front of the 1700m long, over100m high, beautifully magnificent Victoria falls. Just standing there you can feel as if the power of the 33 million cubic meters of water per second slamming down on the rocks below is slamming into your very bones. You just stand there with your arms wide open, a huge smile on your face, getting absolutely soaked to the skin by all the whirling mist. Everywhere you look you see rainbows and in some areas you can even see a ... read more
