Vix and I were staying a Jollyboys Backpackers in Livingstone. Its a pretty good backpackers with a chilled vibe and lots to do. We decided to go to the Orphanage to play soccer with the kids with some of the other people from the hostel. It was very similar to what we would find in South Africa - so no culture shock. I spent ages speaking to a 14 yr old kid who kept saying he liked my skin saying "because its white", I found it quite strange. I had a couple of good chats though - one about how I am African even though I am white and how not all white people have lots of money. Random.
We caught our first minibus in Zambia (like our taxis). It was fun and it was the first time Vix had ever been in a taxi so that was cool. Back at the hostel, Vix and I had some food and then had some Gin, sprite and orange concentrate - it wasn't half bad. Vix and I just sat chatting and had the nicest conversation - like the old days, just us girls speaking about things we care about. I have
missed those chats.
The falls
If the Zim side was the more picturesque side of the falls - the Zam side was the more visceral. As we arrived one of the other guys from the hostel - Jon was walking behind us and we chatted for a bit. We asked if he would like to join us and we hung out pretty much for the rest of the day. We adventurously walked all the way down to the boiling pot at the foot of the falls on my request - and it was completely worth it. Jon picked up quickly that I am a bit crazy and adventurous and love climbing things and managed to call me on it fairly early.
Then we headed across the bridge to the main part of the falls. We didn't even make it to the bridge before we were drenched -truly soaked to the bone - it was brilliant. It was a completely different experience of the falls. We walked through all the little paths continually getting the spray poured over us. I could cup my hands and drink the spray - it was brilliant and very refreshing. Every now and then
I just stood on the edge looking at this incredible sight before me and was in complete awe of God and His majesty and glory. I could just picture myself sitting underneath or in the middle of the falls. There was one place that would've made an awesome Jacuzzi if you didn't plummet to your death when you fell off. Its unbelievable that that water never stops flowing .
The falls was followed by lunch at Olga's - really good pizza! Back at the hostel we just chilled by the pool, playing card games and finally progressed to 30 seconds (which I hadn't really realised is a very South African game). Vix & I played with 2 Canadians (Tim and Stefan), Matt (UK) and Jon. It was hilariously funny because half the words on the cards were completely unique to South Africa - like Umhlanga Rocks and Mpumalanga. During the game the idea of going to Jungle Junction came up. Its a backpackers on the middle of Bovu Island in the middle of the Zambezi. It didn't take much convincing and Vix and I decided to join the guys. The next day at 2pm we would go to a
random little island. Talk about spur of the moment - I love it.
