Shorty on the Equator
Not to exiting, however it was the tourist thing to do Geo: -1.25418, 29.9928
Had an early morning start as we had to drive 50km in very mountainous terrain, average altitude is 1900mtrs. The drive took us into some magnificent country through little villages. Unbeknown to us tourism into this area is relatively new thus people were having a good look.. one lady even ran away then stopped to have a look, I gave her a big wave and all was forgiven. The track is very good considering the terrain we were lucky our drive in was dry.. however once we arrived at the camp site the clouds rolled in and a thunderstorm started.. hence writing this blog in the early afternoon. The roof top tent is holding up well and has not leaked at all.
The forest we are going to walk in was part of the forest that use to stretch from the Congo to Kenya, sadly not too much remains in actual fact it is really easy to tell where the park boundary is as the cleared land stops and the massive trees start. We are actually very close to the Congo border, which is probably why some people have tried to speak to us in French!! I did not think
Us on the Equator
Also not too exiting, however fun at the time they liked the French anymore.. anyway we have a short 17km drive to the place where we start tomorrows gorilla walk from (it will take 1 hour to drive the 17km's) thus we need to get up at 5:00am have breakfast pack camp and get to the briefing for a 7:30am start.. somehow I do not think there will be anybody other tourists with us as we seem to fluke empty camp sites most of the time.. we have not had to endure any overland trucks since Tanzania..
