I've always wanted to go white water rafting, but have never done it. Since rafting down the Nile is a top attraction in Uganda, I decided to finally do it. What makes it so convenient is that the rafting companies will pick you up in Kampala at no extra charge, take you to Jinja -- two hours away, then return you to your lodge at the end of the day. I didn't want to do a 5 that was all but guaranteed to flip the raft, so thought I was going to do a 4 with the safety raft. The rower had other plans for me.

At times you feel like you are flying as the waves carry you across the river.

I really thought the raft was going to flip over, as did the rower. He really had to work hard to keep the raft upright. But you never know how it'll turn out, as the river is in control of everything.

Just when you are thinking it is definitely going to flip...

This raft seemed a bit bigger than the one we were on. I was told it is more secure because of the oars used, and there was weight in it, which made it more balanced.

Now it's the turn of the other three to go down the same path, the one that the guide said was almost guaranteed to flip the raft.

The raft didn't flip, but one guy did out of the raft. You can see his arm sticking out of the water. His wife seems to be enjoying it. At some point he let go and let the currents carry him down the river to where it was calm.

At the end of the journey, the tourists are expected to carry the raft up the hill to the truck.

After getting the raft to the truck, you can use the changing rooms to change into dry clothes. Once the raft and everyone is on the truck, they pop open the cold beers for the drive back. A fun day was had by all.
