After arriving at Kibo Camp we enjoyed an early dinner of spaghetti bolognese. We wouldn't eat a hot meal for possibly another 16 hours so we loaded up our plates with as many carbohydrates as possible. After dinner we packed our rucksacks including plenty of muesli bars and dried fruit as well as all the water we would need until we returned to the Huts sometime the next day.

Despite the altitude the weather was warm in the sun so we spent some time after dinner watching the clouds roll in and out below us, never managing to reach as high as the camp. The sky was clear blue and the sunshine warm and bright; it was looking promising for a clear night with an almost full moon.

Natalie had been suffering from a headache since Horombo Huts which was made worse by sudden fast moments, anything that resulted in breathlessness (which was anything mildly more strenuous than a slow walk) or bending over. Daniel was now also complaining of a mild headache which is one effect of altitude. Luckily we didn't have any other symptoms and we felt confident we would make a decent attempt on reaching the

summit.

We retired to bed late in the afternoon for a few hours rest and hopefully some sleep before starting our summit attempt at midnight. The summit attempt would take at least 10 hours (7 up and 3 down) which would be too long in the blazing sun, hence the reason behind a night summit.

We were woken at 11.30pm after a restless night where a splitting altitude headache prevented Daniel from getting much sleep while Natalie suffered from his constant movements on the top bunk! We dressed quickly, had a light snack of biscuits and tea and were ready for our hardest challenge yet!!
