Mabuda or "Place of Dreams" is the romantic farm atop the beautiful Lebombo Mountains in Eastern Swaziland near the Mozambique border. It is a place where time stands still, where the memories of colonial days are still alive and well. Mabuda Farms is a beautiful respite specifically designed to host guests – particularly volunteer and missionary groups that are working with the Swazi people. It is quite an impressive operation with a B&B, lodging for hospital residents and medical students, caretaker quarters, a dairy and beef herd, honey bees (yes great stories because these are the African killer bees), maize and bean fields, vegetable gardens and fruit orchards. We have individual cabins that house four people in a beautiful setting with a great view of the hills and a splendid sunset. The stars came out on a very dark night and the milky way and Southern Cross were shining bright. The team had dinner in the Green Shed topped off with great dessert and Dr. Pons’ own brand of Mabuda Coffee he roasts himself. The Farms have an airstrip (he flies a four-seater plane), a lilly pond, hiking trails and a beautiful main residence. It sort of feels like I’m at fancy summer camp!
