Manzini, Swaziland (March 16, 2014) We are settled in the George Hotel in Manzini , and it is Sunday - our last "pre-work" day. Full team planning meetings begin tonight and then we start going out to join the HIV/AIDS task force to do homestead visits. We will break up into teams to bring HIV/AIDS patients food (nutrition is a big problem), conduct medical examinations for any medical issues they may be having and to simply spend time visiting with them. Teams of medical, pastoral and support personnel go out in "kombi" vans with buckets of food and a medical kit to patients that are part of the HIV/AIDS Task Force network. The visits are made to patients' homes and may be in towns or in remote homesteads.

The group that is here is organized by the Bethany First Church in Oklahoma City and is coordinated through the Nazarene mission here in Swaziland. The hosts are Seth and Kaylee Carley, and they serve to orient us and help plan and organize things on the ground here. The team that is here includes 22 people from all walks of life and we are assigned to various teams: Construction, Compassion, Educaiton and Medical/Eyecare. After the HIV/AIDS Task force visits, the Construction team will be working at the Siteki (pronounced Steh-gee) English Church and Manna Farms. The Compassion team will be working with children in a network of Child Development Centers - providing teaching, interacting and entertaining hundreds of children. The DMEI team brought 500 spinning tops donated by a group of wood carvers in Oklahoma to distribute as toys for the children. Thanks to Sarah Mantooth and Michael Reggio for organizing this and the group's contribution! The Medical Team and Eye Care Team will be lecturing at Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital on Tuesday morning, and then splitting up to work in several medical and eye care clinics. The Education team will be delivering a campaign across the country focused on an "AIDS-free Swaziland in One Generation."
