“The World seems to slouch onward into its uncertain future like some huge inarticulate beast, too much attained by wounds and ailments to be robust, but too strong and resourceful to succumb.” – Richard Hofstader Writer’s fatigue or Covid-19 exhaustion are the two likely factors which have curtailed the updating of the Covid-19 blog notwithstanding that this pesky virus needs to be updated to read Covid-2021. Another little side trip in South Africa. This time we stay 5 nights in Pretoria and two days around Sun City. A holiday around Pretoria or Joburg is not on many people list. But here it is...I'm slowly making my way to play the top 100 rated golf courses in the country. Prior to this week, I was at 71. Today I am at 76. The simple reality is...beside two of them in Parys, all the 22 remaining are in Gauteng! So I technically need at least 3 more weeks of "holidays" around the area to achieve what not many people did in the country...play all the courses ranked in the latest chart of the top 100 by Golf Digest in 2018! Good chance I could be one of the few even maybe the first foreigner ... read more

6th April - West Coast National Park in 3 parts! The West Coast National Park offers overwhelming natural beauty, established in 1985. With our knowledgeable guide we were able to walk the shores of the lagoon, visit a hide where we were very lucky to see flamingos, stroll along the salt marsh and before we finished the tour see in the distance a group of four ostrich. As we walked we discovered tracks of Eland, Cape Fox, & Porcupine. We saw on the rocks Dassie and many other birds as they flew around the lagoon. The succulents with their wonderful textures and colours together with the blue sea and mountain made for a truly amazing experience. Added to the adventure Kersten with the aid of his camera was able to bring into view the flock of ... read more
