For the next few days we were visiting our friend Brett (who used to work with us). He now manages a lodge in the Nambiti Game Reserve. We were looking forward to this trip because it was our turn to be guests and receive the five star treatment. It was about a four hour drive from Johannesburg to Nambiti Hills Lodge. When we arrived at the gate we were directed to a nearby car park. This is where guests for all the lodges had to leave their cars. We parked, stretched our legs, got our bags out of the car and then Brett arrived in an open Land Rover. It was good to see him again- it had been about six months.
Before going to the lodge we stopped at another lodge that has a rehabilitation centre. Here we were able to interact with a pair of young cheetahs, a young leopard, very young servals and a meerkat. We had a little play with the cheetahs and then went to the leopard enclosure. The leopard jumped all over Brett and seemed quite rough. Paul tried to pat the leopard but it preferred to bit his wrist and ankle. The

Brett spotted a boomslang – a light green coloured snake that was hibernating in between the sheets of the corrugated iron roof, this gave me the shivers. We then went into another enclosure. Here there were younger predators – cheetahs and servals. We had a great time watching them play. The last animal we interacted with was with a meerkat that wandered around the rehabilitation centre. It was tailless, friendly and very cute.
Brett then drove us to the lodge. Upon arrival we were given a delicious welcome drink and then checked in to our room. We loved our room; it was very spacious with a private deck. There wasn't much time to relax as the afternoon game drive was leaving soon. We prepared our things for the game drive and went back to the lodge for afternoon tea at 3pm. Half an hour later we departed for our safari with Brett guiding us.
Soon into our safari we saw a white rhino walking away into

There were two males and one lioness. They yawned, started to get up and walk towards us. One of the males then took the lead and walked alongside the vehicle. Brett then turned the vehicle around so we could follow them. Unfortunately they walked off into the bush.
We continued on and stopped at a waterhole for snacks and sundowners. It was then time to head back to the lodge. I really enjoyed this afternoon's game drive. The sighting list for the day was eland, giraffe, hippo, impala, black-backed jackal, kudu, leopard, lion, red hartebeest, white rhino, steenbok, warthog, waterbuck, blue wildebeest and zebra.
There was a nice surprise waiting for us when we got back to the room. The bubble bath had been made for us, so we had a quick bath before going to the lodge for dinner. We enjoyed a delicious three course dinner back at the lodge. After a few drinks with Brett, we called it a night.
