01 Rhinos
A group or 'crash' of white rhinos. Geo: -24.7605, 26.2917
This afternoon I joined Deon, Paul and his guests for a game drive. I love getting the opportunity to go on drives and get out of the lodge for a few hours. We didn't drive far before we saw a sighting. As we came around a bend there was a crash of white rhinos in the middle of the road. Eight of them were just standing there, looking around and not budging. We switched off and watched them for about 15 minutes and then they slowly walked off the road.
We drove through the plains and saw typical plains game of ostrich, impala, springbok, zebra and wildebeest. In the last week there had been sightings of two spotted hyena cubs and that is where we were headed. Luckily we didn't have to wait to see them. We were able to stop only a few metres away from them. They were gorgeous! Little balls of brown fluff. They were playing next to their den. There was no sign of their mother. We sat and watched them for about 30 minutes. For sundowner drinks we went back to the plains.
Once the sun had set we stopped by the den again
02 Road Block
The rhinos blocked the road and only moved when they were ready to. and watched them for another ten minutes and then drove back to the lodge.
