Day 10 - Africa
Another morning safari. We were really trying to find the elephants but it gets hot here really early (85 degrees by 10:30am) so they hide in the brush really well. We found more water buffalo, giraffes and zebras. We drove right through the herd of buffalo. One big male got so close it was freaking out a few of the riders in the back. Driving along, Jim noticed a wildebeest skull. It was pretty cool actually. Our ranger, Absilum, is holding it in one of my pictures. We drove up over the ridge to keep looking for the elephants. We stopped at this house that was built for the movie “I Dream of Africa” with Kim Bassinger. Not sure who else was in it. It’s pretty cool. Later we did find one of the big white rhinos resting in the mud. We got pretty close and he didn’t seem to mind which is not usual. The ranger said they usually run when the jeeps get close. Well, no elephants on this trip. Next time. We headed back for lunch and a night ride with spotlights later.
