Smile Please!
The Enormous Crocodile Well hello there folks! Lets recap..when we wrote last, we were looking forwards to our weekend away with Lara (roomie) Kat (i-2-i guru), Mat (i-2-i Oz big Boss) and Erica (Queen Chauffeur!), and also planning our evening out with Lisa and Cliff (Help 2 Read peeps!). Dinner was a great sucess, Lara joined us which was great and the company was very easy going. We went to the Brass Bell in Kalk Bay. The food, as always, was fantastic and in the interlude between dinner and mains, we were treated to a display of insanity like never before witnessed! (And it wasn't by either of us!!!) The waves were enormous...crashing over the top of the wave barrier, and earlier that afternoon the alarm had been raised as someone had spotted a 4metre long great white shark in the local surf! Laughing in the face of danger, three teenage lads took the opportunity to do some night surfing directly in front of the restaurant! It was the most unbelievable act of stupidity either of us have ever seen...and as we all know, that's saying something!!! The waves were picking these boys up and just throwing them against the walls!! Madness!!! Earlier
Pebbles
The Pigmy Hippo being bottle fed that evening, our ...erm... 'housemates' half-heartedly invited us to Cape to Cuba, a bar in Kalk Bay. So being the good hearted souls that we are, we dragged Cliff and Lisa along after dinner and had a rather brief drink there. I don't think we'll be returning! (Think Bob Marley?!)
Now for the run-down on our wild weekend, including an explanation on who on earth MC Matie One-T is...
We were picked up at silly o'clock on saturday morning and chauffered along Route 62 by Erica the Queen of the Road. We called into a couple of vineyards for a spot of wine tasting. We discovered that "sparkling wine is my downfall," (Quote: Mr Matie One-T, May 2007). At the sixth vineyard we stopped for lunch and then got back on the road heading east to meet Ronnie in his questionable shop. After that we headed to our overnight destination of Oudtshorn, singing and dancing to tunes from Steps and other cheese classics along the way thanks to the excellent DJ-ing skills of MC Matie One-T (aka the i2i Oz big boss)!!!
We stayed in the volunteer house, which was just two minutes walk from our dinner
Pebbles' big brother
Likes: Football...and cuddles!!! destination- Jemima's, a lovely little restaurant where a couple of our party actually ate Ostrich stomach (not us we hasten to add!). We were all full of food and ready for bed so it was an early-ish night ready for adventures aplenty the next morning.
We were met at the jaws of Cango Wildlife Ranch by our guide Melanie. She then gave us a behind the scenes all inclusive tour of the ranch, and we were treated like royal guests!!! Our first stop was to meet the crocodiles, with whom we would be getting better acquainted with later that day! We also were able to see pigmy hippo babies, snakes, lemurs, lions (ooo-err), tigers and much more, as well as learn about the history of the park and the role of the i2i volunteers in the centre.
Then came the excitement! First, we went into a cheetah enclosure and posed for pictures whilst stroking and cuddling the big cats. If that wasn't enough, we then went into a huge aviary, where we became human perches for hundreds of lorakeets and parrots! We were groomed by our new friends and enjoyed the opportunity to laugh at Mat, who had the inside of his ear licked and all hair products stripped from his head!!! Our last stop was to the crocodile pool. It was here that our hearts stopped, as were donned a very fetching lycra 2-piece and got into a cage ...only to be lowered into the freezing water! After briefly dangling us, our toes in the water, the guides took great delight in dropping the cage (and us!) into the water for us to come face to face with three very enormous crocodiles!!! Wow!!!! What a fantastic thrill this was!!! We were able to see every scale and tooth that the crocs had to offer! And for those of you nonbelievers, we were given complimentary photos to prove it!
Unfortunately, we had to reluctantly leave and as we had spent so long in the park, we were unable to walk with elephants as planned, so headed home. After a scenic 5 hours in the car, spotting baboons and dassies, we arrived back to Fish Hoek and headed sleepily to bed!
**Coming soon.....lots more photos...when Lizzie remembers her camera cable!!! Doh!! **

Are you bringing your washing home with you or will it make its own way?
Ok, so I went for a walk with the dog and mowed the lawn!! Glad to hear you had such a great time together. You seem to have made some good friends and no doubt it will be hard to leave them all behind.Having said that there are some friends and family who can't wait to have you back. We had the 23rd on the calendar and had arranged a less frantic day so that I could at least come home for lunch to see you . Imagine our suprise to find its TUESDAY! Oh well, best laid plans and all that! Hannah's Mum and Grahame will be there to meet you at the airport, Dad's got a couple of hours off to catch up with all the news. How does roast sound? See you very soon, love Mum
