Knysna has probably been my favorite place on the Garden Route so far. The bus dropped me off right next to their small waterfront, which is really lovely - it overlooks a lagoon and a mountain range in the distance, and it’s more mellow than Cape Town’s. I walked toward the main street trying to find my hostel (all uphill by the way!), but no one seemed to know exactly where it was and with my 50-odd pounds on my shoulders I was not interested in trying to find it. I went into the first place I saw—Peregrin—and I am so glad I did. It was only 120R ($18.50) for a double, compared to Knysna Backpackers which was going to charge me R200. I got a really spacious, sunny top-floor room—with my first double bed ... read more

Tues 24th (Paul still guest blogging) We headed to Knisner for the wreck scuba dive. It was my first dive since the training course in freezing cold Portsmouth (England). The wreck was cool to swim around but I was concentrating so much on swimming and breathing that I didnt take as much of it in as I'd liked. Tamsin told me afterwards that she was watching me most of the time as she was worried I was going to zoom up to the surface (only half attempted this 3 or 4 times). T was probably wise to watch me as I almost cut off her air supply when I mistakenly pulled on a hose ... read more

Today was a really fun and active day in contrast to the lazy day I spent yesterday tasting wine. Woke up at 6am to have and early breakfast at the backpacker's that we were staying at. Left our little town of Swellendam by 7:30 and headed towards towards the coastal town of Knysna (pronounced nize-na . Heading out of Swellendam, the fog was pretty thick creating a really beautiful effect as we drove through flat grassy green expanses of land with mountains in the background. Pillows of fog sank really low so it looked it the mountains were rising out of the clouds. We made Jen (scenic papparazzi) in charge of identifying photo ops and making Erika pull over so we could take pictures. The fog lifted later in the day and you could see heards ... read more

Hi Guys Firstly, thanks to everyone who has mailed since our last blog. Sorry we haven't had a chance to reply individually, hopefully we'll get more opportunity when we get to Oz. Quick update on the KPI's!!! Finances = Green (ish) Fitness = Amber (still) Relationship = Green Arguments = Zero We left Cape Town last Thursday. Unfortunately we didn't make it up the mountain as there was just too much cloud. So we now have a reason to return at a later date! And since we have been travelling around we have both decided we want to come back to South Africa. It is a beautiful country, people are so friendly and the scenery is stunning. And they have a very large wine region! We discovered this when we stayed in Franschhoek and went wine ... read more
