Hermanus
Beautiful sunny day. Walked along cliffs and watched dozens of right whales and their calves. They seem to stay just off shore as they nurse probably to avoid predators like the great white and orcas. Went into town where the whale crier blows horn with whale sightings. He had a busy day as whales were coming right up to the cliffs with numerous sightings of breaches and tail slaps. These are huge whales as evident from the life size replica in town. They do not have a dorsal fin so they look like submarines as they pass. We ate at a restaurant on the shore that was built into the cliffs where we could continue to watch whales. It is hard to remember we are in Africa on days like this. W have been out on whale watch boats and had less encounters than we did from shore today. Tomorrow an early start to Gansbaii for great white cage dive. Then if we survive, a 4 hour drove to Knysna where we will be for 3 nights. Hopefully some 20 foot shark pics to come...
