This is our last Blog for South Africa. Unfortunately we had to cut short our visit and return home. My sister, who has been ill took a turn for the worst and passed away on February 7th the day after we arrived back home. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her!!!
Debra had a minor health issue that required a consultation. Jane(our hostess) arranged for an appointment with her Doctor in which we were able to see within a couple of hours and the total costs with some medication was $49.00 CDN. It's anecdotal but quite a difference to the Canadian system!!!
We found a place that serves reasonably good oysters, called "Thirsty Oyster" Still not as good as PEI/NB. Pictures attached of Gordon's Bay from the water processing plant high up in the mountain. Water from the whole area is supplied by a mountain river which is dammed near the processing plant. The water is very much potable at least in this area.
Golf this week at Devon Vale. Nice course. Debra didn't play but came along in the cart. We hooked up with a German and a Swiss. It's
Uitkyk Winery
They also had Brandy and Chocolate pairing. interesting to meet people from around the world. The Swiss owned a small 6th generation family business that makes Violin Bows!! The wood is imported from Brazil and they employ about 10 people. He claims it takes about 4 years to train someone to make the bow. It's hard to believe anyone can make a living in such a niche business.
