‘Well, you shouldn’t arrive today right?’ Heerlijk geslapen de ... read more

I’ve spent a lot of time in Cape Town over the years, and although I’ve enjoyed plenty of nights out in the city centre, most of my time has been spent enjoying the city’s beautiful beaches, hiking Table Mountain, visiting the wineries or driving the stunning, winding coastal roads. I started at the Castle of Good Hope, which you’ll find on the corner of Darling and Buitenkant. Built in 1666 - 79 by the Dutch East India ... read more

Episode 6 (1.10.11) - by Craig. Whale, sharks and the Western Cape. Hello to everyone back home. We are currently in the Cape Town region, in the South Western corner of South Africa. The city is beautiful - we saw it in sunshine as we arrived but the next few days will apparently be cloudy. Well, prior to arriving in Cape Town, we picked up a hire car and drove two hours South East, to the town of Gansbaai (pronounced Huns-by ), the self professed "great white shark capital of the world". Nowhere else in the world are Great White Sharks so accessible (15 mins from shore, where they feed on a resident seal population.) They are a magnificent animal and the world's largest and most feared predatory shark. I had booked a white shark cage ... read more

Well, we are officially in Cape Town now! Work is in full swing, but life is comfortably less hectic than it was when we hit the ground running in the Eastern Cape. On our way out of town on Saturday, we drove to The Lion Park. A little black sign on the side of the road with a dangerously sharp hairpin turn to go into a driveway of someone’s farm property. We paid our entrance fee of about $5, bought one of the little optional feed bags, and were given the instruction of “the wild dogs are here, the cheetah is there, the lions are over there, and there are 4 new little lion cubs that you can go in to play with, but just be warned that they do bite and scratch.” And with that, ... read more
