Our next destination was Satara so we stopped of at tshokwane picnic spot on the way up and ordered the pie and chips insisting the gravy be served separately. Last time we were here the gravy was dollopped on top like a little mountain as it was so thick, disgusting even for me and too thick for the normal South African gravy also.
We drove along the road over what appeared to be a generous coating of elephant dung, so much so that there had to be a large herd somewhere and eventually we found it, fortunately far enough away to watch comfortably, we counted 77 including lots of very young ones.
Satara campsite was as nice as ever and we managed to get a quiet spot on the fence. They are upgrading the restaurant so the reception area is a bit of a mess but the rest is ok.<br style="color: font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px; line-height: normal; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" />

We also saw our first fireflies. We saw a pair of jackal on our day drive.<br style="color: font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px; line-height: normal; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" />
<br style="color: font-family: UICTFontTextStyleBody; font-size: 17px; line-height: normal; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;" />We decided to spend three nights there as it was so nice and quiet after being in the south of the park so one day we spent most of the time sitting at the waterholes just watching the animals coming and going with a glass of wine and a beer. Confused everyone who came past.
