Kruger National Park to Sabi Sands Reserve
Well I'm sitting here at Kirkman's Kamp in what can only be describrd as pure luxury. Fantastic accomodation alongside a 1920's homestead where everything is included from a daily laundry service to cocktails, wine & spirits.
Our first eveing drive last night included seeing a Leopard crunching awaya on her kill only 5 metres above our heads in our open top 4WD. The sounds of her powerful teath breaking through and crunching on the bones of the fully grown Bushbuck will remain wityh us for a very long time.
Not only do you get close up to the animals on this reserve along side the Kruger National Park but you stop for a very civilized twighlight drink of G&T, scotch or wine before driving back to camp for dinner.
Our week at Kruger NP was fantastic - we were very lucky with our local driver who knew the park like the back of his hand he also shares our interest in birds. We got to see many birds and animals with the highlight being 2 males sauntering up the road as we drove alongside. The countryside is very like Australia
expecially at the moment with everything still green before the real sunmmer kicks in.
We have takens 1000's of photos and still have had the time just to enjoy the experience of watching:
- elephants take a dust bath
- giraffes saunter along
- hippo's grunt and "blubber" in the river
- lion's sleeping just like big cuddly cats
- buffalo lift their horny heads and look at us as though they are far superior
- a honey badger and jackal play together
- hyena youngsters awaiting mums return
and we are not finished yet.....................
