Excited to finally begin the trip!

The day before we go!

It’s time to do all the final preparations and make sure that we haven’t forgotten anything!

One of the “soon to be tourists” are a little blown-up in the mouth region, as the other decided to play a bit of his online game before booking the seats online, some valuable time was lost (even if it was only 5 minutes) and the only available window seat was the one overlooking the left wing. At first Melinda was a bit disappointed, but then she realised she only prepared herself for 1 disappointment, so nothing else could go wrong since she was totally unprepared for more hick-ups.

Well it’s back to packing, not much time left to cross the t’s and dot the I’s since it’s already 22h30, not that it matter what time we go to bed since we’re WAY too excited to get much sleep anyway.

We have no idea how we will handle the long flight, but at the moment everything is new and exciting and everything feels like a great adventure. We can’t wait to explore the unknown!!

Planning is done, trip is underway!

This must have been the longest day of our lives, but finally it was 17h00 and Melinda’s Dad came and picked us up, so we were off to the airport.

Melinda’s dad treated us to what we believe will be the last steak we’ll eat for the next 3 weeks. Not only because we will have to start paying in Euros and Pounds, but also because we’re not sure if the steak will be as good as the steak we get in South Africa.

After our Cheddermelt Steak & Pepper Steak (that no one can make as delicious as good old SPUR) we’re off to show our tickets and get into the plane! We soon realised that it was not quite that easy and after waiting for an hour onboard the plane, we finally had lift off at 22h00!

Lucky for us the plane had the most beautiful and interesting wing imaginable, since we have to stare at it for 10 hours, only kidding. It was not all that bad and we enjoyed the view we had. It was our first time we flew together without jumping out of the plane (skydive March 2008), and it was more fun than we expected, limited leg room and small seats considered.

On the plane we had yummy chicken penne & potato salad, Melinda had good old fashioned Nederburg red wine and Leon had some strange red French drink that the airhostess referred to as wine. We watched a couple of inflight movies like The Wrestler, Bride Wars, Taken, and some documentaries, but with the little screens quickly tires your eyes. After our drinks we fell asleep…zzz…
