On the Runway

It’s been quite hectic galloping to get this far. Jurie and I were both out of town in the run up to this trip. Me; on a hike in the Knysna forest in search out the elusive ellies and learning to speak Russian over a bottle (or two of vino) with my good friends; Gela and Carol. Jurie; for more noble reasons, was conducting his swansong at work. As of now he is officially retired. In fact he had a MOMENT. Arriving back home on Wednesday evening without a job, there was no dog and no wife to greet him. AWW!

To cut a long story short out pre-planning months ago to pre-empt our pre-travels paid off and it really wasn’t that bad after all. My packing was interspersed with trips to the TV for nostalgic watching of The Comrades. We made the 400km return trip to George on Saturday to collect a Europecar so that we would not have to leave our car at the airport for 2 months. Fridges were emptied into Cell and Lize’s fridge and last minute instructions for Fusion’s care issued and re-issued and confirmed. Fusion was

A bit too early to check in; (what's new?) so in search of brekkie
convinced she was coming with us when she was allowed to hop into the car when we locked up. Her whole posture collapsed when we dropped her off at Cell and Lize. I nearly hopped out myself, but she’s in good hands.

Disaster struck at George airport! Jurie’s camera slipped off my shoulder and fell squarely onto its lens and the protector cap was smashed and twisted. We were quite subdued when we arrived at OR Tambo in Joburg. But all’s well that ends well. A quick vacuum and test at New World In Menlyn proved all we needed was a new lens protector and cap. Guess what? Jurie trusts me with the camera and I marched into OR Tambo International with it securely over my neck this time. J

We spent a pleasant two days visiting Marthinus and Laetitia and our precious knee-hi’s and shopping in Pretoria. Here we are at OR Tambo with 2 hours to kill. A bit nervous for our Singapore interchange, as the flight to Sydney starts boarding 5 minutes after we land. Fortunately we are not strangers to Changi Airport.
