... read more

Toen ... read more

Matt and I decided to try volunteering abroad. We booked through goeco.org. Our paris trip was just a pit stop with Africa being the destination. Here is my journal of the entire trip. Monday, 1/20/14 When we got off the Airbus, we were seriously pressed for time. The airplane arrived 15 minutes late so we were left with one hour to check in through customs, pick up our luggage, and get through security. When we got off the plane, the customs line was super long. We stood in it for about 45 minutes. I knew at that point we would miss our flight. I kept looking for an employee to help us jump the line, but I couldn’t find anyone to ask. There were no employees around trying to help speed up the process. When we ... read more

Mennesket så farligt ... read more

Geo: -33.9366, 25.5709We half-expected Gordon Ramsay to step into the kitchen, screaming insults, slamming plates of food down on the counter tops, and throwing the microwave out the window, as tonight, we had one of our worst meals in recent memory. What kind of expletive-laden cracks would he make about this place? Who would he make cry? No doubt that his carefully-worded barbs would have left us rolling on the ground in tears of laughter, not the tears of sorrow we cried over our meal this evening. Having chosen our guesthouse for its proximity to the airport, this meant that there weren't any good dining options within walking distance, so for convenience, we decided to sample our guesthouse's three-course set meal - a mistake! There obviously weren't any other guests joining us for dinner tonight, but that ... read more

My trip from cape town to port Elizabeth started on a good note until a dunk man sat next to me, at first he was not disturbing anyone, it was almost 12ock, when I spotted the man was drinking on the couch, he was all over the show crawling down the hallway, shouting " I am flying" and I was so mad because this is not what I would have expected on my journey to PLZ, the bus stopped at Heidelberg and the police had to confiscate the man off the couch, it was so a relieved that he was off the bus. My journey from there onwards was good until I did reach my destination in Port Elizabeth.... read more

It's the weekend before I leave and I am on lions today. I got to bottle feed Josh for half of his bottle, and Meghan did the other half. The only reason why I wanted to do it was for the pictures, I've already done it a few times, but I was always like oh, I'll do it again and get a picture. I never really realised how fast time was going here. We raked, picked up poop and the leftover chicken, but then they knocked the chicken bucket over and dumped all the chicken out again. Then they just got too roudy so we all had to leave and go back after breakfast. We switched animal time and project time again because some people were going shooting. I normally would have but since its my ... read more

Well it's my last day on hyaenas! I'm gunna miss my little friends :( We took them for a walk, since I'm leaving, I got to walk them, they did really well. They sniff everything but they are still well behaved, you just have to guide them in the right direction. I was walking Shanzi, and it was a little difficult because she lost her collar, I don't know how she got it off, but she did so I had to wrap the leash around itself in order to walk her. I just had to be careful how I walked because I couldn't let it get to loose or get in front of her because she could easily wiggle through and run away which would clearly not be any good. Once that was finished, we were ... read more

My days here are winding down, and today is my last official day on tigers, so I woke up early and got them all ready. Tams gave me Or to walk around the parking lot with becuase they were going to the dam. I however could not go because I had gone to the enclosure on Monday, so I had to stay here and clean out the enclosure. Since I was by myself, I had to ask someone in a different group for help and we were able to clean the tigers enclosure before they got back. Once they got back, we went off to clean Shadows enclosure. They told me while they were at the dam, two of the tigers ran off into the woods and they had to go catch them. Man that would ... read more
