Summer 2007: A Journal of My Trip
Mon June 27, 2007
One thing I don’t like about traveling is the transportation to get to the place. First we had to take a 2 hour bus to Montreal, then we took a 6 hour plane to France. I barely slept on the plane, it’s too uncomfy. We got a day room at a hotel and we slept for four hours, then we took a plane from Paris to the Seychelles that was ten hours long. It felt like it was never going to end.
When we finally got there I felt so wired going through two time changes in two days! And I barely had any sleep. But tomorrow will definitely be more fun!!
Tues June 26, 2007
Yesterday before going to bed I saw my first lizard. He was light brown and could climb on walls. He was really fast and seemed quite intelligent! My mom found him or her in the kitchen behind the stove.
This afternoon it started to rain. We were going to go on the beach. Me and my Dad thought that we should go
tomorrow, but my Mom and my brother knew we would probably go tomorrow anyways, so we decided to go. When we got to the beach it was really pouring rain. We heard one noise of thunder, so my Mom decided we could not go swimming. So we went for nothing! After my Dad said that we should go to a pizza place nearby. But it was closed! We waited for another fifteen minutes but the storm did not clear up. So we went to get a taxi! But the person said we could not go wet. We put on our dry clothes, but all the taxis were gone. We walked to the bus station. When we got off the bus me and my Dad went for the church choir practice. It was not the best day ever but it was better than yesterday!

Today my Mom, my brother and I went to the beach, but my Dad worked. We did some snorkelling but there was not much to see. We had a good swim though. There are a lot of dogs on the beach. Most of them are strays, they’re always following you and
begging for food. On the way to the beach I saw many different types of birds that you can’t find in Canada. I love it when you are just walking by and you see all these fruits that you can just pick right off the branch and eat which would normally cost a lot of money in Canada!
Thursday, June 28
Today we went to a beach called Sunset Beach. There’s no road to it, so not that many people know about it. We saw a lot of coral and different types of fish. The swimming was awesome! I got a pretty good sun tan, but my back burnt a little.
Friday, June 29
Today we went to the botanical gardens where we saw lots of tortoises. Their shells were bigger than the wheels on my car. We also saw some coco de mers!! It has the biggest seed in the world. After, we went to the park to play. We had some cotton candy. It is so much better than the cotton candy in Canada and I also met three nice Seychelloise friends. Today was National Day in the Seychelles. It’s basically like Canada Day.
They had music and food - it was a big festival. Today we also walked by the clock tower. It represents the Seychelles.

My Dad has a friend called Joy. He met her at church. She works at a really fancy hotel and she invited all of us to spend a day there for free so she could give us a tour. We went swimming in the pool and we also went on a snorkelling boat. The captain gave us bread to feed the fish, so all the fish were following us everywhere. All the little fish were nibbling on my fingers to get the bread. A big fish bit my brother though. He still has the mark on his hand. After, I played tennis with my Dad while Jonathan and Mom were in the exercise room. Joy showed us the most expensive room in the hotel. It was 9000 buckeroos per night. I also baked some cookies with the kids activities group. I met a brother and a sister who came from Switzerland.
Wednesday, July 4
Today we moved from the Bishop’s house to a very fancy hotel called The Coral Strand
Hotel. There is a swimming pool, a pool table, a ping-pong table and the ocean. There is also a nice view of the ocean, though there is a bees’ nest right beside our balcony. There is a huge breakfast buffet included each day and there is a telescope look at stars. When we got all settled in it was lunch time so we went to the Baobab Pizzeria. The pizza was so good and after we went for a swim and played pool.
Thursday, July 5
Today we went to the beach basically the whole day. My Mom went for a jog and saw some tortoises in captivity at a hotel, so we decide to go back and see the tortoises. We petted their necks and they stuck them out further. The really liked our company and they were huge!
After one My mom and my brother and I did some exercises and Pilates! Then I did some meditating and I fell asleep. I went sea kayaking too! Jonathan tipped me over! It was fun!
Friday, July 6
Today was another day at the beach. Me and Jonathan went for a run then I decided
to go splash in the water. I felt something in the water. I thought it was a shell so I picked it up. I held it in my hand and then it started squirming. But it was just a little crab. Later when I was swimming with my mom and my brother a group of fisherman caught four huge fish. They brought them on the beach and cleaned them, it actually was not that disgusting except for all the blood! It was so cool when they opened their stomachs and all the little fish came out!
Sunday, July 8
Today we went to church. My Dad gave the sermon. After we went to my Dad’s friend’s birthday party. The house was right beside the beach so we went swimming! There was a cake and they taught us how to play dominoes! Not the funnest day!
Monday, July 9
Today I wrote a poem, my Dad helped me a little, but only for 3 lines.
I arrive at the Seychelles one day from tomorrow,
The excitement I feel, the absence of sorrow,
The seas, oh so blue, the mountains so high,
I spread out my wings and feel I can fly,
The sounds of the birdy up over my head,
As I fall asleep on my beautiful bed.
At last I am here, this feeling is great,
The sea is still so blue and the mountains still so high
But wait - is it already time to say goodbye?

Hi Michelle, I studied with your Dad last summer. I have just seen your blog. I totally agree with, travelling can be so tiring, but it is great when you finally get to your destination. It sounds like you are having a great time with your family. Your poem says it all. Good for you!
