31 October 2015 One of the things that has surprised me about this trip is that all our travelling in the Sothern African interior has been on a plateau with an average height of about 1000m. Today all that changed as we slowly descended for 120k through bleak though in its way beautiful desert scenery until we reached the Atlantic Coast at Henties Bay.
It wasn’t only the altitude that dropped. The coastal areas are affected by the cold sea temperatures which produce morning fogs and temperatures of less than 20°, 15° less than we had become used to. Consequently everyone dived into their wardrobes for fleeces and long trousers
We drove along the coast to the lively resort of Swakopmund where we are staying for three nights.
