Also warten!

First of all, sorry for the lack of pictures. I didn’t bring the camera out too much because I didn’t want it to get stolen. Okay so I spent a week in Jo-Berg with Lise which was great aside from the fact that I got sick. I think it was from swallowing a bit too much of the Zambezi while I was rafting. I went to the doctor and she said I was fine and pretty much just had to wait it out. There was also an almost overdose at the hostel we were staying at which was a bit freaky since it was me and another girls who found him. Nothing like walking out of your dorm to someone convulsing on the floor. He was okay in the end which is good but they ... read more

They say you should save the best for last, and that was the intention with Mozambique. The promise of beautiful sandy beaches, warm water, great seafood, and even better diving. Well, I can gladly say, we weren't disappointed! We started in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. The change from being in South Africa was huge, and it felt like the real Africa again, only with another small hurdle... they speak Portuguise! Luckily Anto's Spanish helped us out. So after setting up our tent at the hostel, we found out about the 'must do' fish market that everyone raves about, and we took our empty stomaches straight down there for a feed. The place was amazing! You bought whatever seafood you wanted, Prawns, Calamari, Lobster, Oysters, Fish, Fish, Fish, then took it to one of many restaurants ... read more
Chris delighted by seafood.
The heat is overwhelming and the water is scarce.
Apart from being lying on the sand, playing with the ball seems to be the one activity to do. They play all day and every day and they love foreigners in the game.

Never have the words of the Fresh Prince sounded so apt. :) So we "adjusted the bass and let the iPod blast" ... bizarrely enough shuffle played us The Bends by Radiohead - spooky seeing as we had just arrived in a dive resort! Not as weird as it playing Steve Biko by Tribe Called Quest as we landed in Jo'berg. I swear my iPod has intuition. Anyhoo I digress ... When we said we were going traveling and were starting the adventure in Mozambique - most people asked why there. Well ladies and gentlemen if you take a look at the attached pictures you will see why - (smug grin from us) We endured a typical Africa bus ride that took about 10 hours to travel 300kms up the coast to the province of Inhambane ... read more

So here we are in Mozambique, to be precise we are in the capital Maputo. It’s not the prettiest place in the world, but it has some charm and we have thoroughly enjoyed wandering about the place for the last 2 days. The thing that strikes me most about this city, is you can buy anything off a person on a street corner; fruit and veg, nuts, 4 gang extension leads, chocolate, arts and crafts, ivory ... even a toothbrush. In some places you get little tin shacks on the corner of 2 streets set up as a bar. Perfect for that can of ice cold beer on the way to work in the morning! Our highlight here was a visit to the local fish market. It was just after 4pm and the days haul had ... read more

Version FR un peu plus bas Hello, I am in Livingstone in Zambia near the amazing Victoria Falls. I know this is out of order but I wanted to share some pics of Maputo in Mozambique, I was finally able to resize my pictures and they now upload pretty quickly (great news!). I would love to go back to this city and spend more time exploring the markets and trying more of the local dishes. So, here are a few pictures of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. This was my first big African city and I loved it! So much energy, so many colors and so much going on! This is exactly how I had pictured it. We spent a couple days there and were able to stroll through the market, eat awesome grilled prawns with ... read more

Please scroll down for the English version. Next leg of the journey was Tofo to Maputo, which involved a couple of days staying with one of Kek's friends who lives a couple of hours south of Tofo in a really beautiful place called Quissico. We hitched a ride in town with all our stuff and then Neils came and picked us up in his very cool retro beetle. I wasn't sure what to expect from Neils' place, but I wasn't quite prepared for what was in store. After staying in what was basically a summer house on the beach I was quite looking forward to a bit of luxury, and it wasn't until I arrived, that I realsied I wasn't going to get it! Neils has moved to Quissico to create a rather cool backpackers/wellness/hippy commune for people to come and stay at/live ... read more
