Day 1 -19
Flew air France, business class, amazing cubicles and even better food. Tried caviar
Day2-20
Flew to Casablanca and took a train to Marrakech. This train was delayed because it was the weekend and they wanted to consolidate the schedule. We barely got on. Everyone jam-packed. Holding luggage bags over my head to allow people to walk through. Eventually we sit in a train booth with the friendliest people. One girl who continued to help us find a seat pulls out food, corned beef in a bun and offers these two sandwiches to people in the cart. Each person tearing a piece off and sharing with each other. Amazing. After taking a taxi to the hostel we grabbed dinner. Amazing alleyways filled with street meat vendors and small restaurants. We had an excellent dinner and said goodnight.
Day 3-21
We woke up late which was expected and a pleasant surprise. Went to the gardens, which was absolutely stunning. We had a delicious traditional dish. It was beef tagine. We later went to the market. It was massive. It was very beautiful, busy, exciting but nerve wracking. Ate some
more local food at the market in the square portion. We had some excellent fresh juice and pastries. The market in Marrakech was massive and packed people to people. Each small alleyway, which spread from the square, was filled with store fronts that crept on to the streets. It was a great time. When we got back to the hostel we met with another couple that described their trip from Washington to Paris. They were on the airframe flight that diverted to Halifax a day before our flight that had everyone talking. It was a great first day in Morocco.
Day4-22
We met our guide at 0700 and drove to meet the tour groups. We then drove with making many sightseeing stops along the way. Having the option to purchase merchandise or continue on our trip. We made it to Ait Ben Haddou. This site is protected by Unesco. This sight filmed many movies such as gladiator, prince of Persia and game of thrones. The site was built in the 1300s. We then saw a lot of beautiful merchandise and had a fantastic lunch on a enclosed rooftop. Completing this spot we continued to drive to
the hotel. It was a long day of driving through the mountains inching closer to the Sahara. We eventually arrived to our hotel. It is stunning, Beautiful and the aroma is as well.
Day 5-23
After waking up for breakfast at the hotel we drove and went to the garden. This was known as paradise. This was a stretch of greenery in the middle of town. All clay coloured buildings surrounding this green patch. We walked through paradise en route to this small town. The town was a beriberi town. Filled with nomads and other cultures. We went to see how rugs were made and purchased one ourselves. We then drove to the gorge. Being near a stream of water with cliffs high above you on both sides. Watching others rock climb making me jealous. We went for lunch for traditional Moroccan meal prior to driving to the Sahara. The camel trek was awesome. Trekking through the Sand dunes with the sunset. Gielyn had a five month old camel so she was pretty excited she had a baby camel. We arrived at these fabric building where we will be eating and sleeping. After dinner we went
outside and listened to the guides play Moroccan music by the fire. You could see the stars clearly but the sky was so brightly lit from the moon.
Day6-24
We woke up early. Walking out side of the freezing tent up the sand dunes towards the camels looking up at the starlit sky. This time amazed by the piercing stars. The moon was no longer in the sky keeping the sky bright. Instead it was the stars. All you could see is the dune you were walking up with the most beautiful night sky i had ever seen. I am doing my best to describe this indescribable sight. Today is our drive all the way back to Marrakech. It will be a long drive. The tour was fantastic and I highly recommend it. More so booking through Riad Massin the hostel in Marrakech. The price for this three day tour was between 15 euro to five time the price cheaper compared to our peers. On the drive home we had a good and finally well priced meal as we went off script and found our own restaurant. We continued the drivers Marrakech seeing beautiful sights, as
the road is centimeters from the drop.
Day 7-25
We started our day early taking a taxi to the train station which took us to Rabat the capital of Morocco. For lunch I had this amazing Moroccan dish. Best way to describe it was a curried naan and chicken but the naan was like scallop potatoes. We walked through Rabat after checking into our beautiful Riad. The city is much more friendly and beautiful than expected. Walking over a bridge looking at all the ships in the harbour. We went to the market where we purchased some great merchandise after learning how to haggle throughout the trip. In the market we tried juice from a juicer. Only what was being juiced was sugar cane. It was sweet but amazing. We found a place to eat dinner. On the way to dinner we walked by a very beautiful pricy nicely lit tall ship.
Day 8-26
To begin our day we walked to the Mausoleum Mohammed V. We attempted to walk to the theatre project but it is nowhere near complete. Prior to the madina we took a tour of Jardin Nouzhat Hassan. We
found the most beautiful cemetery overlooking the water. We spent time there before walking out to the end of the pier to overlook the sunset over the Atlantic. After the sunset we spent time in the Kasbah. We went back to the madina before heading to our Riad. It was a great last day.
Day 9/10-27/28
We woke up and ate breakfast on the terrace prior to our train plane and automobile trip home. It was a great trip.
