Tuesday 23rd - day twenty-two I woke up earlier again today and actually feel better off for it. I think the over indulgence of sleeping such long hours was putting me in a bored melancholy mood.
I took some time out and in the true spirit of Ramadan took the time to reflect and look at the person I am within. On searching and seeing this reflection I came to the not so pleasing conclusion that I am a cranky, crabby, old bitch. Amazing how food and drink deprivation enhances your personality - obviously in my case not in a good way. So I have decided I'm going to try and lighten up a bit for the remaining days of Ramadan and try to enjoy the last days. I'm working on the cranky and crabby bits, but the old and bitchy part I just can't seem to shake!! Most of you will agree that's just part of my normal personality.
We had Iftar at home today, because we have a couple of German couch surfers staying with us. These poor young blokes were involved in a car accident and are a little shell shocked. Luckily they
were not injured to badly, just a little scratched and bashed around.
Anyway it made a nice change and the plumbers wife downstairs told us there was a guy down the road selling fresh fish so this is what was on the menu tonight.
Wednesday 24th - day twenty-three We had Iftar again at home as the German couch surfers are still with us. And besides Zak's parents have a house full of extended family visiting from another town so they won't miss us. The German guys, Mark and Thomas, are slowly recovering from their injuries - the fact that they are staying stoned the whole time is definitely helping with their pain management. Besides all that they are pretty nice young blokes - very funny and are amazed by what they have seen and experienced during their holiday travels in Morocco.
Thursday 25th - day twenty-four Again we ate at home, same reasons as above. The days are starting to wind down now.
There was a bit of drama in the family today, not sure what was going on but Zak's brother and his wife Fatia ate with us today too. And of course
Fatia, Yousef & Ghita
Zak's brother with his wife and 4 month old daughter the new baby Ghita (pronounced Rita) was with them so that was nice. She's so cute and seemed to be fascinated by one of the German guys who is blonde haired, blue eyed. Probably the first pale person she has ever seen. Ghita is only 4 months old but she sure was fixated on Thomas!
We didn't get to the cafe until 10.30 and Said (Zak's cousin who we sit with every night) had our table waiting and wondered where the hell we had been. Since we didn't get there til late, we did not leave until a lot later than usual also and it was after 1am by the time we arrived home again. Looks like we have a full house tonight - everyone is sleeping over.
I have given up my bed for Fatima & Yousef (Zak's brother and wife) and baby Ghita.
Friday 26th - day twenty-five I slept on the couch in the kitchen because the salon is already full of bodies with the regulars and of course our 2 extra couch surfers. I slept ok and did not hear a peep from the baby all night or this morning. Not bad for
Mark, Thomas & Zak
German couch surfers a 4 month old.
Mark and Thomas have suitably recovered from their bumps and bruises from the car accident they had a few days ago and today finally went for a short trip into the forest with Zak. This was the reason they were coming to Azrou -to see the cedar forest. Zak told me when they got back that the pair of them squealed like excited young children when they saw the apes in the forest. They loved it. Many of the apes have young now and are very playful. The boys took heaps of photos and told me about their experience with huge smiles on their faces. These blokes are hilarious and have been a breath of fresh air the last few days, breaking up the monotony.
