As I got off the air-con CTM bus, Marrakech greeted me with a hot 2pm breeze. The stop was a half an hour walk from the Medina (‘Old’ Town). On the way I looked for Morocco everywhere but all I could see were mediterranean-style buildings, large avenues, proper sidewalks, neat and tidy cafes, aseptic hotels. I stopped under a tree by the Cyber Park (yes! A Cyber Park!). It was just a park like any other well-kept one. The difference were its donors: Siemens, Philips, Microsoft, etc. I saw ALSA local buses and countless mops drive past. I saw specks of moroccan authenticity on two wheels: seaters talked on the phone and argued with one another, always carrying everything with them, from dogs to long boards of woods (modern knights with no helmets). I arrived at ... read more

Essauira is a great place to visit for a first timer in Morocco. Quaint, beautiful sunsets and wonderful food. I fell in love with the sardines there. More to come this is just a brief test for a more detailed log.... read more

I Have just returned from Essaouira and this time decided to drive down from Stratford upon Avon,England. I have a Mitsubishi Delica 4x4 (Pajero with MPV body). Left Uk via Dover which cost £48.00 one way on the Ferry and drove south via Paris and spent the first night in Bayonne just north of the Spanish border - the next day drove through Spain - Burgos - Madrid - Granada - Malaga -Algeciras and stopped the night outside Algeciras . The third day I caught the Algeciras - Tanger ferry which cost 158 euros return . The cost of the tolls in France and Spain amounted to about 120euros in total. On arrival in Tanger it was the usual Customs and police fiasco / game but managed to clear the port within 1 hour ( which ... read more

We had a really great time in ESSAOUIRA last October . I can really reccomend this great town for a holiday . The Windsurfing is really AMAZING. The town has a great atmosphere and there is virtually NO hassle so if you are on a first time trip this is the place to be! Great Beaches , Some of the best SEAFOOD that I have ever tasted and its cheap! We were SO lucky with our accommodation - we stayed outside the town in the MOST Magical place I have ever been . Also it is great for groups of up to about 12-15 people - what fun we had! Their website is at moroccovilla ... read more

Heaven is... fresh fish for Lunch. ... the endless hospitality of the couple who's guest house I am staying in, here in Essaouira. Their website is www.essaouiranet.com/dar-nafoura tel 00212(0)44 47 28 55. I wouldn't normally give a plug for the places I've laid my head, but their service has been exceptional. Heaven is... the scenery in Essaouira, and if you are a surfing dude it's a great place to windsurf. Oh, and the food is excellent. Having said that, its not a place to swim, as the rip tides are very strong. The journey here was uneventful - I used the bus company Supratours. I found my guest house by just wandering around the Medina - it's a short walk from the bus stop. It was 11 am in the morning - the front door was ... read more
