Pappa visiting Relaxing on the beach, sun bathing, swimming, and then some more relaxing on the beach, sun bathing, swimming and then Pappa was ready for exploration of the island. So amongst eating Bruno’s fantastic cooking both at Coco de Mer and at his home we did some sightseeing:
Port Louis Market Fruit and vegetable market as well as the meat and fish market. It is a big contrast from what we are used to in Europe and North America with strict regulations on handling live stock and meat. It is definitively worth a visit just to feel the hustle and bustle. Joachim and me are acclimatised and went strait on from the food market to the food stalls, but Pappa was not very hungry afterwards.
Visit to Tamil temple In Mauritius there are many temples and one of the best to visit to find the best statues is located just west of Grand Bay. Amongst the statues was Ganesha, which is one of the most well-known and beloved representations. The entry fee for the temple was a 100 rupees and that included a guide.
Unfortunately she was not too chatty, but would answer any question
asked and we did learn a bit about the Tamil religion.
The red roof church in Cap Malheureux This is a very beautiful place on the north tip of the island. There is a Roman catholic church with a bright red roof and you can see the island Coin de Mire in the distance. It was here the British landed in 1810.
90%!o(MISSING)f agricultural land is being used for sugarcane So we had to visit to Sugar Plantation. This was our first time and we learned a lot about the history of Mauritius as well as sugar and rum (other than from local dinner parties). Once on the plantation don’t miss out on the great palm heart and smoked marlin salad at the restaurant Le Fargourin.
