Sending a parcel from Mauritius..

Today we went to the post office to send Christmas presents for family back home that was easier said than done….

Check this out:

If you rap the parcel yourself and close it is very expensive, they wanted 1001 rupees for one of the closed parcels I wanted to send. That is about £15, 190NKR, 35CAD and 30USD. BUT if you buy a padded envelope and only close it with clips and open all the Christmas presents so that they can see the contents, they only charge 415 rupees. In addition they offer to register the parcels for an additional 30 rupees, so a total of 445 rupees instead of 1001 rupees….. Less than half the price for clipped envelope and open presents… 😊

So I am very sorry guys, but all your presents are opened so if (not very likely at all) the parcel arrives before the 24th of December - DO NOT OPEN…..

Hei, skulle bare si god jul og sånn, og lykke til videre på ferden. Er vel unødvendig å si at misunnelsen blir større for hver gang dere puncher en ny blogg. I am Mauritian, I never understood neither why it is cheaper when the envelope is not close. Their web site is not clearer - http://www.mauritiuspost.mu/services/mail/foreign/smpackets.php I always assume it is a normal practice outside Mauritius too? Seems not! Please come back again... Antony

Hi Antony, Thank you for posting on our blog. :) I have not heard about other countries having the same system for cheaper parcels if they are easier opened, but there probably is! But I have to say I don’t quite get it either as am sure they are not opening all the closed ones! In any case am all happy, got my Christmas presents sent off the cheapest way! :)
