Finalmente fuimos a Johannesburgo. ... read more

Next morning we got up at 7 and packed everything then bought a cheap breakfast, 2 bagguettes and some happy cow cheese then met up with the other couple at the taxi-brousse station. They had already organized our t-b so we paid the man and got in, we had to wait of course till there were enough people for the driver to go. Surprisingly we left when there were still seats free. We made a few stops on the way to Ranomafana, including a town that must have been having some celebration or market day, the street was packed! We had to go really slowly so people could move around the car. Finally though we arrived at the national park entrance where there is a hotel called Rianala and we all got off there (its about ... read more

I am at a beautiful beach town at the southeast part of Madagascar. It feels like paradise to surf and have the mountains as the landscape around me. I've been here for 10 day already and feel like part of the community. I've been surfing, fishing and playing drums with the locals. I'm living such a simple life right now and I wake up as a happy man every day. Experiencing Simplicity Two of the earliest advices I remember as a kid were: 'Aim it straight when you're using the toilet' and K.I.S.S. which stood for 'Keep It Simple, Stupid'. Two wise advices and yet, unfortunately, I still fail to follow either of them. Keeping it simple is not as easy as one would think. My mind always has this urge to over complicate little things ... read more

Hey all first mate Colin here! I was demoted from Commander after a wild and crazy night in Morondava on my bday. It turns out that all the ladies that were hanging from me at the club had a price tag, and thankfully for Ari s bulldog ways she shooed them away before too much damage was done. But for my poor behavior I was demoted, and Ari found some old French ex patriot that she says she loves and will be moving to the south of Madagascar to give back rubs to Jacque, while he paints the sunset while puffing his cigar and choking down shots of Pastis. She also must administer his pills that he must take three times a day to ward off his high blood pressure. Fortunately none is true; the birthday ... read more

Hello to everyone After two very long flights and a very windy bumpy drive I am here. I arrived on Wednesday July 9th. I have to say the flights were good. Flying buisness was great. The air france lounges were amazing. All you can drink open bar and food. The food on the plane was even great. As soon as you sit down they offer you a drink of champagne or orange juice. They give out hot hand towels. The seats recline into beds and the pillows were down. Once we got off the plane in Madagascar it was chilly. We went to get our bags and went through customs. The airport looked more like a loblaws than anything. its very small and very busy. As soon as you walk out of the airport a million ... read more

So... This time in one month I will be on a plane bound for Madagascar. Actually, if we're being pedantic, this time in one month I will probably be asleep in my hotel room in Paris as the flight isn't till 4:30pm, but let's not get picky! For those that don't know (and as I have yet to inform any of my friends of this website, that's currently 100% of you!) I'm off to Madagascar in October for 2 months to volunteer with the Dodwell Trust I'll be living in Moramanga (land of the cheap mangos!) and teaching English to schoolchildren, something I've never done before so should be interesting! Anyone who's lived/volunteered in Madagascar, or knows anything about the area or just the country in general, your comments would be much appreciated!!! Lianne x... read more

I’ve always wanted to see a baobab in real life. I think it’s a Petit Prince thing. I just like saying Baobab in a corny French accent. Or to the tune of the Maoman biscuit ad jingle. So this is me in Madagascar, living the dream. On the whole I loved that country, despite the fact that it was so hot I sincerely considered shaving my head every single morning. Which takes me to something I found quite interesting: in more rural areas a lot of people felt the need to come up and touch my head. Not in an aggressive way or anything, they’d be giggling the whole time. It was like they were daring each other to do it. I couldn’t understand why until I was told that so many people have never seen ... read more
