A: There aren't enough people in the WORLD!!! It's day 3 of my 14 day adventure, and so far it's been three days of what our driver jokingly refers to as "an African massage", which is a cute way of saying that the roads are bad enough to shake just about anything out of you. It would be the understatement of the year to say that my neck hurts just a little! Honestly, no exageration, most of the roads are more pothole than ashphalt. If the road is even paved at all! It's kind of a tradeoff - either the roads are so broken up that driving is next to impossible, or the dirt road is muddy (read: sloshing around) or dry (read: dust EVERYWHERE!). And the way our driver drives... he finds these patches of ... read more

"Ryan! Ryan!" I hear Ken yelling my name through the halls as I shake dreams from my sleep. He is the wild-eyed hostel owner and I had been bugging him daily to get me on a trip as soon as he could. "I've been looking for you for 18 hours...Are you ready for safari?" He peers in with his pink-face and dishevelled hair, evidently having had another long night. Of course I wanted to , but I hestitated because I thought it was going to be with this group of obnoxious British 18-yeard olds that I was sharing a dorm room with. I was at my wits end with this group. I got to the point of fantasizing about how i would kill them. I had been trying my damnedest not to bludgeon them to death ... read more

"I was mesmerized by the simple exquisiteness of the Masai grasslands. Countless shades of gold and green waving beneath skies of the purest blues I have ever seen. And like little gold nuggets hidden in this already beautiful canvas were the animals. I hope you enjoy the many pictures I have posted here. The skies were intriguing and ever changing. I wanted to burn these images into my mind only to recall them at some later time when I needed to have my soul stirred". Nelda We were up, packed and eating breakfast by 6:45a.m. Can't get over how good the food is but if you asked the kids they might roll their eyes. As we pulled onto the road leaving the lodge we see a pride of lion just sauntering down the road right in ... read more

“When the beauty of one multiplies to thousands and that beauty is overwhelming, you are at Lake Nakuru”, Nelda Day 2: Leaving Nairobi and traveling to the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge in Lake Nakuru National Park: As we left the hotel and traveled through the city of Nairobi I was surprised by the number of professional looking women walking through town on their way to school or work. There were cars everywhere but a lot of people walking as well. Similar to San Francisco minus the yellow cabs and hills. The many official looking vehicles with gunmen got our attention. I was told not to photograph the people, especially any official building or person. Since I'm a goodie-two-shoes and I am the ultimate teacher's pet, I obey. We all had a good laugh at my expense, ... read more

10th November At first light we made our way onto the minivan, bleary eyed and settled in for the initial return drive to Nairobi where we were stopping for lunch at the Jamuraga hotel which was very nice. We then continued north of Nairobi up towards the Serena Lodge at Mount Kenya national park. This was a fantastic journey leaving the bleak barren flat landscapes that characterised the environment to the south of Nairobi. The scenery was more vibrant, lush and green. Nick told us that in this area there were many small-scale independent farmers working small plots producing many different types of cash crop. All of these small plots were nestled into valleys and hills adding to the aesthetic qualities of the scene. Driving through Kentakai province there were dense clusters of coffee, mango, papaya ... read more
