Wild animals, semi-wild animals and one animal that wouldn’t survive more than two days in the wild Emma has her birthday in the second half of June. This year we decided to celebrate this day in Kenya. The original plan was to spend the birthday on a safari. It didn’t pan out quite like that. We did go on two safaris while we were in Kenya but neither one was on her birthday. On the birth... Read Full Entry

Great album & great photos! I did some research. Did you do this on a day trip from Nairobi?
11th August 2017

Day trip or not day trip? That's the question
Nairobi NP, the elephant rescue centre and the giraff breeding centre are excellent as day trips from Nairobi. If you are really pushed for time it could even be possible to do all three in one day though we wouldn't recommend that. It is better to do the elephants and the giraffs in one day and the national park on another day. It is possible to see the Hells Gate NP as a day trip from Nairobi but it would involve many hours on the road. We would recommend anyone who wish to see it to stay somewhere near the park. That would give you more hours in the park and less hours on the road. /Ake

Thanks Ake. I think I'd want to include biking as well. That looks like great fun.

Wild wild wild
Some great photos , and iits interesting to see that you made up your itinerary last minute on the hoof so to speak ! Never been to Africa but would like to go.... always thought it might mean spending a lot of money .

Some is expensive, some is not
It is rare to find travel destinations that are entirely cheap. To go to Africa means the flight ticket is expensive and you might wish to take a few tours which will cost a bit. But other things such as food, accomodation and local transport is often relatively cheap. /Ake

Birthday trip
Always good to find a memorable way to celebrate birthdays. Loved hearing about the elephant sanctuary. We have not been to Kenya yet so this was good information. Sounds like you did well planning on your own.

It was great fun
It was great fun to cycle through HGNP. At one time stood staring a water buffalo right in the eyes. It was no more than 5 meters away from us. /Ake
