Speck woke up with a severe back ache. Bus downtown, visited Lucy's office, train station, site of 1998 American embassy bomb blast, walked around government row, wondered why all the buildings looked to be built pre 1980... Because there are no new buildings. Bitter lemon at Cafe Deli, Caroline had samosas which were very good and Kenyan versions of sausages that Speck swears taste like someone fried a Vienna Sausage. There was a long line for the bus ride home but when they got on the bus Speck and Caroline sat in the front seats and got to watch the mayhem up close. Kenyans be CRAZY, Speck was sure that they would run someone over. When the bus dropped them off they stopped at Navais to buy a jug of water for the house water cooler. While carrying it home Speck received many confused looks, maybe because he seemed to be both white and working. Caroline was trying to talk to him as they reached the corner and managed to distract him so that he stepped into the gutter, a trench about one foot wide by one foot deep filled with nasty black stuff. He quickly stepped back out and was
most relieved that he had not even sprained his ankle. As he passed the car wash by Eden Junior and Janet yelled at him and asked what happened to his foot. He explained and the Caroline caught up and told him to remove his shoe and have Junior hose it with the power sprayer. Species walked home half bare foot and immediately washed his feet and socks. Baba Junior, aka Mr. Mwangi, told Speck his first mistake was trying to listen to his wife when she was not yet yelling at him. Dinner was eaten while watching Corazón Indomable and then it was time for bed.
