On Monday lunchtime I got my first view of the waves breaking on the Altlantic shore near Accra - we had lunch in a little beacj restaurant just yards from the sea. On Monday evening we strolled around the Newtown area where we are staying to look for somewhere to eat. By now it was dark but the streets were just as lively as during the daytime. We eventually settled on a small fast food servery next to a TV shop. We sat at a plastic garden table whilst next door a group of locals watched TVs at the TV shop. I say TVs in the plural because there were 3 different sets on, all showing different programs - one of them was still covered in clingfilm

Our first two nights were spent in a hotel in the Newtown district of Accra. This was quite a distance from the Osu district where we are likely to be spending most days so we decided to move to a hotel in Osu which we did first thing this morning.

Aftre freshening up, we then took the two large suitcases full of shoes and flagged down a

taxi to take us to the childrens' home. After emptying out the full set (over 100 pairs!) we sorted them into loose age groups and took the smallest ones along to the baby unit. The youngest ones were just finishing their meal so they would be a while.

Next we took the middle-sized ones along to the dorms where the 4-6 year old kids were. They were all up and lively so Dorothy and a few of the staff started fitting shoes to the children. We took the larger shows along to an older group dorm after that.

Can't believe you were sitting on that beach whilst we were having a Taskforce meeting! Not that I am jealous or anything....
