My visit to Ethiopia started in Addis Ababa, which means New Flower in Amharic. With more than 3 million people, it’s the capital and largest city of the only African country that wasn't colonized during the end of the 19th century and beginning of 20th century, when greedy European countries (F, GB, P, I, D, B, E) invaded most of Africa for their own benefit. The Italians tried to colonize the ... Read Full Entry

Bones of "Lucy" at the Ethiopian National Museum

Why "Lucy"?
Do you kow why she's called Lucy? When the archaeologists were digging they had a radio playing music. When they found the bones today known as Lucy the radio played the song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", and they decided to name her after the song. /Ake

Eating "kitfo" with injera

Love Ethiopian food!
I used to visit an Ethiopian restaurant in San Francisco with incredible little mounds of different veggies and grains on that great, sourdough-tasting injera--you lucky duck! How nice to meet up with a couple of Addis Ababans and get to share your beloved Curaçao a bit. It sounds as if from the attention you got from the touts and guides that it's clear they see you as a tourist. Well, at least you're not being stared at as in Asia.

Food!
I didn't know what kitfo was, so I looked it up, which led to images of the plates of Ethiopian food with all those yummies on top. The difference--massive! The American and British photos on the internet showed huge piles of food on the injera, while your photo showed pretty petite portions. No wonder we're so fat, and the Ethiopians lean. Shocking!

hahaha well I've never been to an Ethiopian restaurant abroad so I had no idea how much they serve. But it doesn't surprise me :) I really had enough of the touts, it gets really annoying sometimes but I try to remain calm and polite. Tough!
