Our Crew
Saying farewell to our Crew on the Felucca I awake with the sound and movement of the felucca moving off shore and heading towards the other side of the Nile. Ouch, why does it feel like my eye is all bung. Awesome I don't have a mirror so snap some photos of my face. Horrified! I see I have itchy bites on my eye and nose. My eye is swallown so much, it makes me sick. In complete sadness I put my head under my sleeping bag and nap again till we are close to the other side. I wake up tilly and tell her we are here. I grab my sunnies and put them on because I'm so embarrassed about my elephant face.
We have breakfast and get changed. We snap a farewell photo with the crew and Tilly, Nadime and I hop in our drivers car and head to our first temple of the day. It's very farm-like where we are, heaps of sugar cane farms, cabbage farms etc. Our driver is good, however the road is complete shit! Every time we speed up, we have to slow down like 30 seconds later for a speed bump. Some we scratch the under car and or exhaust.
I ask nadime if we can stop off at a pharmacy. We do. I tell him I need antihistamines for the itchy bites I have. He translates to the lady for me and I get two packets for 5EGP!! That's like $1NZD for 2 packets! That's so cheap!
We arrive at the first temple (Kom Ombo Temple). It's very cool, we walk around analyzing the hyrogliphixs and nadime tells us about bits and peices of it. My eye is killing me, I can hardly open it so I'm feeling very sorry for myself. After walking around this temple we enter the crocodile museum which has crocodile mummies. It's really cool! Some big ones too.
We head on out and meet nadime again. As we walk towards the car vendors again are trying to sell us stuff. I'm so over vendors. But one catches my eye... My bung eye in fact. A man sitting on a carpet mat with a casual Cobra snake sitting in front of him starring at him. I want a photo and approach with caution. The man tells me to come over and sit with him. Tilly and I are so excited but nervous. As
Interesting Hyrogliphixs
Fertility, such a beautiful sight. I approach he chucks a red cobra out of his bag, so at the moment there are two cobras sitting in front of him starring. FML. I sit down next to him and he puts the cobra on my neck and tells me to hold its head. It's so soft and cold. F*ck. This is so wicked! However I'm still a little nervous because the green snake in front of him is now starring at me... I'm not even worried about this one around my neck, I'm worried about this one in front of me, wanting to bite me or something. I can feel the red one wanting to move. The guy takes the red one off me and now tilly does it. After she is done nadime pays the man and we hop back Into the car.
Nadime is talking to the driver. The driver says "cobra cobra!?!?!?" ... Hmm maybe it was more dangerous than nadime lead on, especially as nadime said he would never do that. We talk a little about scorpions as that is also on my bucket list of things to do/see before I die. Nadime said the black ones are the worst. If
Croc Museum
Crocodile Museum, mummified Crocs you get stung you can be dead within the hour. F*ck. That's cool. Lol.
We stop off at a shop and nadime gets us ice cream, chocolate bar (he calls power) and water each. He's so lovely. We arrive at the second temple (Edfu Temple). It's huge! It's really amazing, I love it. We walk around eating our ice creams, checking out the hyrogliphixs and nadime explains some things. After we are finished we head out and hop in the car. Luxor here we come!
As we arrive in Luxor nadime points at the temple we will be seeing tonight with mohmud. It's also huge! We arrive at the hotel and walk in and see Ereni, James and Matt. I'm still feelin pretty shit and Ereni picks up on this. We have 45 minutes to head upstairs, have a shower get changed and meet downstairs to head out for lunch with the others. We head out for lunch and chat to the others about our experiences on the felucca as opposed to the cruise ship. I'm so happy I went with felucca as its a more fun an authentic experience.
We finish lunch and head to a
small cafe to have a coffee and do some shopping. As we sit in the coffee shop there is a music store next door playing music loudly trying to get our attention, it does because one song I actually recognize!! "So ya so habebe habaso" ... Tilly and I get excited!! The gentleman comes over and offers some CDs to sell. I barter him down and buy the cd with hebebe so ya so on it. Memories. The man plays this song over and over again.
I head off into a little jewelry store. I purchase a silver bracelets with three things I wanted to get while I was in Egypt. Something with the eye of protection, the key of life and a scarab. This has of all. And better yetm it has a catoosh where they customize it to have my name in hyrogliphixs. It's mint! I buy this for 360egp. That's about $70NZD. So awesome though. But at first he tried making it like 600egp, I'm such a good barter. Well not really, I actually hate it.
Before we know it it's dark. We a head to Luxor temple to check it out during the night
They call me
...the cobra Charmer time. It's beautiful and has a garden of Sphinxs. We are stopped a few times for photos with the locals and by now Jamace is soaking up the fame. After we are finished we thankfully head back to the hotel, wifi it up and I head to bed. I am absolutely nakered right now. More temples tomorrow! Woo woo....
