Hello everyone! Let me first of all say thanks for all the great comments!
Since writing last, I left Alexandria and headed to Port Said which was great for so many reasons! Not only did it have a cheap yet wonderful room at just 2.10, it had a fanstastic supermarket. Ok it wasnt a Tesco but it was a start. Plus I wasn't hassled at all there. And I met a Richard Branson lookalike who took me under his wing. Haha Only Joking!!
It was just so peaceful in Port Said. I walked along the Suez Canal to the Suez Canal House - where I was found and then escorted out by the Police!?! Oops. The next day I went to the local beach, which wasn't much to look at and had great fun watching people coming off their cruise liners. I realised how dirty I was when I saw them. I then went to the bus stop - which no longer exists as my guide book (from the library) is pretty old. So a man from the local tourist office kindly drove me there for free! I got to Cairo in the evening - but was dropped off somewhere I
didnt know. I asked the police, like I normally do when Im lost, and they had a 'trainee' tour guide with them who kindly took me to the station first to buy my Luxor train ticket. However he struggled to find this main road and then I found out he has only just come to Cairo himself and didnt know the way! Anyway I found my bearings eventually!!
Diaster struck the next day and I know it would have been avoided if Bob was here. Despite huge efforts of haggling for a cheaper room at the hotel - i couldnt persuade both of them and so i was determined to get my moneys worth and get the included breakfast. However it took ages and therefore delayed me and to top that off - I got slightly lost! Knowing i was very close to it, in a panic i hailed down a taxi to take me there (a 15 second ride max) yet he drove round in circles, not knowing where he was going - and asking passersby for help. He then tried to overcharge me so I had a big argument with him and then just ran off to
try and catch the train. In the end - I was 5 minutes late!! Hence I missed my train! However before even starting to think of my begging speech to the ticket people - the tourist police came to my rescue and straight away gave me replacement hand written ticket for the 10pm train later that day - with no extra cost! Phew! They then kindly took me to a nearby hotel which said they would store my bags for me for free and also showered me with cokes. I then decided to visit 'Old Cairo' and it was so lovely and quaint. It was full of old churches and seeing as it was a Sunday - I sat in on a service (because I needed to cool down and I needed a seat. Haha). I finally got my train at 10 pm and on my ticket it had the numbers 6 & 11. I assumed that 6 was the carriage number and 11 was my seat. The ticket man showed me to my seat and I was pleasantly suprised that this was 2nd class. It was like being business class on a plane! It was amazing. However when we
got to Giza - it turns out I was in someone elses seat and that it was 1st class. Anyway, being the sneaky Bobby that I am, I just moved a couple of seats down the carriage and stayed there the rest of the 10 hour journey to Luxor! Heaven! (It was more than double what I paid for. Haha). Bob would have loved it.
I watched the sunrise as the train came into Luxor and found my cheapest accomodation to date (1.00 - including Breakfast). I then went to Luxor Temple and spent a whopping 5 1/2 hours there. It was pretty amazing. I then came back and had my first shower!?! Thats quite bad isnt it.
Today I had breakfast and instead of the normal roll, there were 3 rolls, a pancake and a bowl of cornflakes! It was great. I then set off to Karnak Temple - which was massive! I therefore spent even longer there (6 1/2 hours). It was full of statues, columns and annoying men asking for money!! I always say no - but yesterday at Luxor Temple one of them grabbed my hand and put it on a painted wall and then
said he wanted a pound!?! Can't they sing a song? Or do a dance for money? Deary me!
One of my hobbies is listening in to English tours for free! Thats pretty good. I also like spying on people from afar with my great zoom on the camera. Plus I like to have many different identies. I haven't yet told the truth about my age/ what I do etc. Its great fun being different people. So Bob - here is your question. Who was I today (Profession/Marital Status/Age/How many times been to Egypt/Where From). Goodluck. And like Janet said - theres no prize for this! Haha.
Thanks for everyones input for my desert query (Im going hopefully now) and Im still working on a picture of a camel.
P.S If you miss me (I.E Bob), I have uploaded a video on youtube for you called "Its a Wonderful World" under bobbymcaleer. Enjoy!
