L'Egypte a gagné la coupe d'Afrique de soccer la semaine passée. C'est cette même soirée que nous sommes arrivés à Louxor. Pendant quelques secondes on a bien cru que tout le monde acclamait notre arrivée dans cette ville...mais non, on s'était fait des idées! C'était quand même amusant à voir, les voitures étaient remplis à quadruple capacité d'égyptiens hurlant leurs joies et plusieurs trimbalaient des cannes d'aérosol et un briquet pour faire des flammes! Une chance qu'il n'y a pas d'alcool dans ce pays car c'est certains que ça aurait dégénèré comme en 93 (quand les Canadiens ont gagné la coupe). So going back a step - Dahab is known as a greta place for snorkeling and diving. Now those who know me, know that I am not the biggest fan of water activities. Especially those that involved actually going underneath the water in large bodies of water that are not pools. So when I signed up for this tour, I wasn't quite sure what I would do in Dahab. I just really wanted to do this one because of the Mt Sinai climb. After some research, I decided I wanted to do an excursion to the Coloured Canyon (don't think I really need to describe what that is). Hello Friends and Family! Since our last update, a lot has happened! A couple of the highlights for us as a team have been getting to go see the pryamids and the sphinx, getting to have a sailboat cruise down the Nile River, and getting to meet new friends at a new Y in Egypt. As our time came to a close in Cairo, we wanted to go back to the hospital we had been working at to say good-bye to the friends we had made. We had an opportunity to say good-bye to Martha and Mary both of whom speak English. Prior to saying good-bye, we had the privilege of helping the hospital clean a new wing that had just been built (maybe is had only been remodeled?). Eastward I went toward the edge of Africa and beyond. My route passed the town of Rosetta, famous for the stone found there that helped researchers decipher the hieroglyphics, and continued through the Nile delta. The darkness outside my window eased my desire to watch the landscape go by, so I spent most of the journey fading in and out of sleep. I woke up when we hit bumps in the road, or when we stopped for a restroom break, or when large vehicles passed us in the other direction. The landscape was always the same, featureless darkness, so I always drifted back to sleep. Salam Alakum everyone! How are you all doing? Well what can I say, it has been a blissful two months spent so far chilling and learning how to dive in Dahab but like all things - reality has to kick in sooner or later and work beckons!!! After trying really hard to look for work(not) and after not having much luck the perfect opportunity came along! I found out a few weeks ago that there's a bus that goes to Sharm el Sheikh and back to Dahab every day. When I contacted the school (Sharm college) it turned out they were looking for a teacher so before I knew it Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt I had a job!
