Here's Will's initial ( i.e. subject to major change) plan.

CWB RETURN TO BOTSWANA 2010

We are now planning into the final stages of planning our return to Botswana, in conjunction with the BCA, ICC and in particular with guidance from Girish Ramakrishna (CEO- Botswana Cricket Association). We will arrive in Gaborone on Sunday 17th October and return to UK on Saturday 30th October after a two week visit. Our aim this year is to return to Botswana and continue what we started last year. We will be coaching in government schools and training local teachers to be cricket coaches. Throughout our entire trip our coaching emphasises positive awareness of HIV/AIDS which is embedded in the CWB ethos. The plan is to work for one week in and Gaborone and then travel north for the second week to work in and around Francistown for the first time. We anticipate that we will be coaching similar numbers to
last year at around 1500 children and continue our training of the local primary school teachers; we hope to progress many of the 57 trainees from 2009, improving them as both cricket coaches and as ambassadors for the promotion of positive HIV/Aids awareness.

As well as revisiting the SOS Orphange in Tlokweng, we will be organising two joint events in conjunction with the Botswanan Government and the BCA. We will be hosting a new initiative that will promote positive awareness of HIV/Aids through a number of sporting activities and workshops. The ‘Wellness Days’ will be aimed at the most disadvantaged children in Gaborone and Francistown and together the Botswanan Government, the BCA and CWB will be forging forward with our goal in ‘Bowling Aids out of Botswana.

Whilst the detail is somewhat unconfirmed at the moment, we will be working with representatives of Botswana University, including their HIV/Aids faculty and teacher training students. This will provide us with a new challenge and will allow us to interact & train with professionals in Botswana whose goals are so closely linked with ours.

This year we would like to build on the excellent relationship we have formed with the BCA so that we can return next year and every year after that twice annually. In 2009 the hospitality we were shown by the members and Committee of the Gaborone CC was superb and we do hope that we can regularly return to the Club this time to enjoy the atmosphere once more.

The 2010 team this year will consist of:

• Will McLaren-Clark (Team Leader & Botswana Country Manager)
• Mike Griggs (ECB Tutor)
• Veronika Reeves
• Michael Reeves
• Michael Stratford
• Allan Parker Reed
• Veronique Cowan Goessant
• Adrian Shankar
• Chris Bond
