Reply to this Terry-Ann, I would simply not bring my kids to Antartica before they are at least 12 or 14 years old. Being used to the insurance business...I did ask the guys onboard...what do happen if you HAVE TO evacuate somebody...they DO NOT send planes, but would just re-direct you on another ship to the Falkands...which means...few days at least. So for me, no kids under a certain age, even if I'm sure they would love it!
Barnaby, and Lili...I'm VERY frustrated...nobody is ever looking at my PREFER entry, this is the one name "I can fly, I did fly"....I did it 2 years ago out of Cape Canavaral...at the time, I was one of maybe 5,000 humans who had the chance to fly zero gravity. Meaning, the parabolic flight...you may have seen it on TV....it was the BEST thing I ever did...have a look, it was around November 2007.
Reply to this I went to Antarctica back in November 2003 with Peregrine Adventures and was blown away with the scenery, the wild life and just the fact of being there. I do however think that there is some scaremongery going on about the Drake Passage, it was like a mill pond when I was there.

Hi intrepis Traveller, welcome to the forums...hope to see you more here. I tend to agree with you for the Drake Passage, for me it's all about the "luck or no luck" on the crossing, but I've seen the people around me on my crossing, and I can tell you, the white faces did speak for themselves. Hope you are going to blog on some of your travel soon, as I guess if you've been to Antartica, you've been all around too.

I think I'll rewrite the whole of the AC/DC tour blogs, drip feeding them when I get a chance between current adventures. I'm on tour with a comedian at the moment which is leaving little time to write I'm afraid.

Reply to this AC/DC were here in Munich not so long ago. I didnt bother to go to their show, because the stadium is way too big. It turns it into a less than watching television experience, unless you happen to be one of the lucky ones that gets to the front. On the otherhand, Judas Priest and Motorhead have a smaller venue, so their shows in Munich were great.

Mell, I found that the best place to listen to an AC/DC concert was from behind several heavy, closed fire doors. And even then it was worth wearing ear plugs!

I know how cold the water can be in the polar regions. Foolishly I wanted a picture sitting atop a small iceberg that had come to the shoreline last summer. Icebergs are not renowned for their stability; it rolled me straight into the water in normal clothes. At least you wore a wetsuit..
Reply to this I visited Antarctica a few years back while I was living and traveling in Chile and South America. It was the best, most unique experience of my life... I would go back in a heartbeat. Unfortunatly I wasn't blogging at the time and my journal with all my pics from a year and a half were stolen in Costa Rica upon my return to the States. I still have all the memories in my head. The Drake is not fun but well worth it to get to see everything I got to see! So few people travel or will ever travel there that the captain told us we were all now ambassadors of Antarctica, A position I hold proudly!

Mell, the reason I get hired to truck rock bands about is because I'm not remotely interested in doing it! They know that I won't be trying to get autographs or hassle them. What I do like, though, is pottering about European cities on a bicycle. Moscow was fun - all the signs are in Cyrillic..
So sorry to hear about your journal being stolen Kari. It's just the pits to have irreplaceable treasures pinched.
