What a lovely port to visit
Well what a breath of fresh air pulling into Stavanger, our most southern port of call on this cruise, no snow or ice in the town. A beautiful town with all the wooden houses which are considered national heritage monuments in their own right, kept so pristine, was lovely to wander around for a few hours taking in the sites. Very pretty Norwegian town. Though we did take a walk around the lake in the middle of town with loads of birds on it and it was 3/4 frozen over, John said "can I video you walking on the ice to see if it can hold another bird's weight, I AM NOT THAT SILLY! The gorgeous cathedral was built in the 12th century and was modelled on Winchester Cathedral which we visited a few years ago. Lots of craft shops and galleries. Their main income until recent years was the sardine trade but it fell into the duldrums and oil has made this town a very weathly one, we saw loads and loads of oil rigs as we sailed out at sea. Walked up to the top of a hill in town to visit the Valberg Tower and Guards Museum which

The snow capped mountains
was a great view over the harbour and town, John stuck his nose now the barrel of a cannon and it was stuffed with syringes.....a reminder drugs are everywhere!! We could see the snow capped mountains surrounding us in port but the temperature was great compared to what we had experienced further north. Back on board at 4.30pm and off we sail back to Southampton with a day at sea. Have met some really nice and friendly people on this trip and shared our last breaky with a lovely couple we have spent some time with Gino and Phillippa from the Midlands.....people do make a trip special too! Docked in Southampton around 6am and then our disembarkation time was 10 and then we took quite a walk into Southampton to the National Express Bus Terminal where we had to wait until 1.15pm for our bus to Heathrow Airport, arriving at around 3.30pm, rained all the way from Southampton but the bus driver was fantastic, we made a pick up in Winchester which was lovely to see again as we had stayed here back around 2006. We are staying overnight at the Premier Inn at Terminal 4 which is just perfect,

Walberg Tower and Guard Museum
a 10 minute walk to the departure lounge. We were recommended this hotel by a couple we met on our African Safari saying it was very reasonably priced, of good quality and have restaurant and bar which serve decent food at reasonable prices.....spot on! It is a great place to overnight! Sadly this little adventure is coming to an end but we are just over the moon that we saw the Northern Lights in their glory....so, so lucky!
