Lapa Rios - rediscovering the child from within!You know when I research where to stay I read a lot of trip advisor , blogs and so on and so on.. but if someone would ask me where to go in Costa Rica i would tell them - that if you only have enough time for one place - this is the place to go . Lapa is the Spanish name for the macaw while rio is the word for river. The owners John and Karen first visited the future home of the ecolodge, they witnessed a number of majestic scarlet macaws flying across the jungle, appearing to form a river of red above the canopy.In 1993, the couple liquidated their assets and finances the purchase of a large section of rainforest to build a small, sustainable hotel that would focus on protecting the environment and educating guests in a level of luxury akin to the leading resorts found worldwide. The 930-acre Lapa Rios Reserve helps buffer the Osa Peninsula’s

So that is where we stayed- we arrived after a 10 hour drive from north to south ,to be greeted "buenos nochus"- we walked down about 100 steps into a room that had no glass windows just screens and there we were glamping in the jungle surrounded by monkeys, macaws, sloths, butterflies, frogs, beachs, no internet and all that is good. We woke up to the sound of a pack of howler monkey's who's call through the forest rolls like a wave as a deep growl reminding you of the horror movies that you would quickly turn off with a great fear of horror.We walked trails that took us through different forests -we stood watching the ants carrying huge leaves, frogs decorated in black and green the size of a thumb , spider monkeys that can't stop screaming and throwing the remains of the fruits that they ate down from the tree tops, and the lone sloth hanging on the tree. The toucans that will eat anything but are so beautiful and the macaws that fly in pairs gracing the sky with their red colors. Every afternoon we welcomed the rain that drenched the land and made it impossible for our towels and clothing to dry - the humidity was so high that even the paper in our books were damp.
Jeff walked around with his camera ready to take an action shot at every corner - our eyes lit up as we were so excited to learn and see new things. we could walk for hours in the heat or rain but didn't care it was all so interesting , different not touristy - actually we found ourselves apart of nature ( a nice and easy one i might add) but just being - without a care in the world except for making sure we put on a enough repellent and praying that we could make it up the stairs. After 4 days we were rested and our minds were so empty that we lost the keys to the car and my glasses but we didn't care (well not really - we were freaked out - could we be so relaxed! {
