10th Feb: Up early this morning. I had a good night's sleep, but still felt knackered. I need a lot of sleep. Apparently the TV in the room came on randomly at 6 am, and pout the shits up the people it woke up. Thankfully I slept through that. After getting ready and packing up, we went down to breakfast. Oh my god! It was sooo cute. Proper traditional looking. We were given rice, miso soup, salmon, and some other bits. It was nice. A bit gutted I had to pay extra for coffee, as it was 100 yen a cup I had to ration myself to one, when I could of happily downed three or four. Onto the bus for the drive to Aso crater. The drive took about 40 minutes and it was a ... read more

8th Feb: Onto the bus at 11 (at night) in Seoul and we were off on the long drivedown to Busan. Hoping that the traffic wouldn't be too bad, even though it'sSeolnal (Lunar New Year) and they had extended the bus only lanes for a few more hours. 9th Feb: Well we made it to Busan around four, half four ish. The traffic wasn't that bad, a lot better than it had been at Chuseok. The bus was freezing though, which made it difficult to sleep. We dropped off the people, who were staying in Busan for the holiday at their hotel and then drove to the port. We parked up in the carpark and slept until about 6 or 7. When I woke up the bus was like a sauna. It's was bloody lovely, after ... read more

Sat 19th: Up at the crack of dawn, oh the joys! Hopped on the bus to Seoul, had a lovely hot bagel for breakfast and then onto the bus to Yongpyeong. The journey was a few hours and a bit boring. We had a couple of rest stops. We stopped at the rental shop to get our boots, skis, snowboards, and clothing. That was carnage, so many people trying to get sorted, asnd that was just our group, didn't help with the Koreans trying to push in. Finally sorted we got back on the bus and drove a bit further to the resort. At the resort we all got sorted with our lift passes and headed off to the slopes. We had to walk for about 5 minutes and that left me knackered. Walking in ski ... read more

5th Jan: Up at 6. Showered, layered up, and had brekky. Skidded down the road to get a taxi. One came pretty quick. Taxi driver was chatty, sad face, I can't be arsed to make conversation in broken English first thing in the morning. Got to Suwon station by about half seven. Went and got a coffee at Maccy Ds in the station and then headed out to the subway exit, where the bus would be picking us up. Chain smoked, while waiting. The bus turned up about ten to eight. We all got on. Bloody hell, it was freezing on the bus. We waited for a bit and then drove into Seoul to pick up the people there, at the Express Bus Terminal and Yongsan. My God I was bursting for the toilet. Tried to ... read more

28th Dec: Well there was no point in going to sleep last night, as I wouldn't get in from work until about 10, and then I had to pack and have a shower and be up at about 4. So I stayed up all night and pottered about. I got a taxi to the airport bus stop not long after 4, and the airport bus left at 5. It wasn't too bad waiting in the cold. Had a little nap on the bus and got to Incheon airport around 6:20 am. Got checked in fine and had another cigarette, before heading through to security and immigration. tnhe lines were massive, it looked like the world and his wife were leaving Korea. Well it is the holiday season and people get so little holiday here. Whilst waiting ... read more

6th Oct: Up far too early. I made my way to Seoul and onto the bus to take us to Andong. The bus journey was about 3 and half hours, not too bad. We stopped a couple of times on the way. We arrived at Hahoe Village around 12. We got off our coach and onto the regular shuttle buses that take you from the park's entrance to the main village. We took a five minute walk and then we arrived at our accomodation for the night. Hahoe Village is an old style Korean folk village, however it differs from other folk villages in that people actually live there, so it isn't just for show. It's all preserved in the old style. The only spoiling factor is the sky dishes attached to the houses and the ... read more

28th Sept: Made it to Yangjae station in plenty of time. Traffic going to Seoul was fine. Stopped off for a Maccy Ds. On the bus by 11 and ready to go, however some people were stuck in traffic, so we sat on the bus and waited for them for 45 minutes. Personally I would of just left them. Once they arrived we started our journey south. The traffic was horrific, as expected at Chuseok as the whole country travels to their home towns or villages. Leaving Seoul there was a sea of red lights on the motorway as far as the eye could see. 29th Sept: The traffic seemed to ease up once we had left Seoul and then Gyeonggi province, and we started to move at a better pace. The bus was no longer ... read more

Well this blog isn't really about travelling, but it is about experiencing culture through food. Something I really enjoy. I love Korean food, but didn't really know where to start when it came to trying to cook it myself, so I signed up for a nine week cookery class. The course I took was run by the Institute of Korean Royal Cuisine. the course took place in their istitute in near Anguk station in Seoul, right next to Changdeokgung Palace. The building is a traditional Hanok, set around a courtyard, it's so pretty. The Institute of Korena Royal Cuisine researches and passes on the Royal Cuisine of the Joseon Dynasty, which is a nationally designated important intangible property. Each week we had a different teacher, who would teach us the dishes, the teachers seemed to teach ... read more

10th Aug: Met up at the express bus station in Seoul, a little after 11. Since it was a small group, only 16 people, we had a mini bus instead of a proper coach. Tried to get comfortable and get some sleep. 11th Aug: We arrived at a beach near Yeosu around 4:30 am after a couple of toilet stops. We all got off the bus to inspect the beach, however it was a bit dirty and grotty looking, so most of us got back on the bus to sleep. Woke up around 6:30. Had breakfast sitting by the beach. Stocked up on ice coffee from a little shop nearby, as it was going to be a long day. Headed to the public bathrooms to try and make myself look presentable. We left just before eight ... read more

Alarm went off at 8 am. Why did I think it was a good idea to go out drinking until 5 via KFC? Oh well. Right, time to pack and clean my apartment. On the airport bus by 11. Got checked in and had a hot bagel and coffee to sober me up. Witnessed a woman beating up her husband / boyfriend in the deprture area. Gave me a good chuckle. Flight was traumatic. Asiana, why do employ kamikaze pilots? Got a grilling off the customs guy due to the size of my very large case for a three day holiday. Got the metro fine and arrived at the hostel without getting lost due to the fantastic directions with pictures and arrows the hostel provided.
