Tour Day 47, Cruise Day 47 – Day at Sea Cruising the Bay of Plenty and the Coromandel Peninsula – I was so unimpressed that I didn’t take any photos. Perhaps it was the weather, perhaps the landscape, perhaps my frame of mind; however, the crew was busy assembling the first suggestions of the Christmas season.
Tour Day 48, Cruise Day 48, Auckland, New Zealand Day 1 – Arrival and My Introduction to Auckland, New Zealand
Sunday, November 26, 2023 – My arrival in Auckland differed from other ports of call on the cruise in that it was time to pack my bags and get off the ship. I had a solid breakfast and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. First, my call for departure was well past the time I was assigned the previous day. Second, once in the queue, it moved at a snail’s pace. Finding my luggage was a piece of cake. I made my way to the base of the pier and found a place to sit about 15 minutes before my friend, Paul, and I were to rendezvous. He arrived and we went for, what else, coffee! With caffeine aboard, he
took me on a brief overview tour of Auckland before we arrived at his home. I renewed acquaintance with his wife and met his daughter, home on holiday from college – a mid-life career change from the travel industry to IT. While I was on ms Noordam, I had been stricken with a progressively worsening cough without any other symptoms of COVID, and a home test Paul had on hand proved negative as well. He texted his doctor (also his friend), and I had a noonish appointment established for the next day, Monday.
