Last minute decision to drive from San Francisco - Seattle. Looking for suggestions for scenic routes, places to stop/check-out/accommodations.
Hi,
I plan to drive up to Seattle from San Francisco and back from Sep. 1st through Sep. 6h 2017. I've already been to Crater Lake in Oregon.
I'm flexible to stop along the way going up and down - probably do stops along the way up and drive back directly for efficiency.
Looking for advise for scenic routes, stops, and accommodations along the way and in Seattle (I'm flexible in terms of stay as long as it is functional, clean and serves the purpose (just to sleep and shower) - hostels etc.)
Short notice - but thought I'll get some wise words 😊
Thanks,
-Ganesh
Reply to this Welcome to Travelblog! My personal advice is to plan on Portland Oregon instead of Seattle. San Francisco to Seattle is 800 miles one way, which is 2 days of just driving. That doesn't leave much time to see things along the way. Alternatively, keep things a little flexible and turn around after four days, where ever you end up.
The coast is amazing. Driving up 101 and back on I-5 will be incredibly scenic. Both California and Oregon have many state parks along the coast. Stop at whatever looks interesting.
For accommodation, the cheapest options are camping and hostels. There's plenty of the former in parks along the way, although much of it will already be booked for the holiday weekend. The bigger communities have hostels.
