Not the one that carries us around that playground in the sky, but the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme.
I was a JET for 3 years in Shimane Prefecture, and both during that time and through alumni activities I've met some amazing people and made some great friends. If you're currently on JET yourself and would like to follow the blogs of others who are, introduce yourself here. Or if you come across some JET TBers, add a link to their profile.
Reply to this Vicb's JET adventure is about to end, but there's some nice blog entries there about her year on the programme.
Reply to this Hey peeps! My name is Nigel and I'm a new Irish JET living in Fukui (north of Kyoto)! Nice to see there is some fellow people that were/are on JET!
Any recommended blogs to read?
Reply to this Am I the only JET on TravelBlog at the moment!! Madness, there's a couple of thousand people on it!!! I'd better represent!
Reply to this There's over 4,000 JETs there at the moment - I'm sure there are more TBers among them!
Reply to this Keep an eye on the Japan blog entries and you'll probably come across one soon enough.
Reply to this I have been, but I haven't noticed any... 😞
Lots of my friends have blogs, but usually using their own site kind of ones!
Reply to this There's a Kiwi JETs FB page - is there one for the Irish JETs as well? You could try asking there.
Reply to this There is, but there is only 39 Irish JETs!
Ya I don't know why more people don't use this, it's got forums built in to :-)
Reply to this Hey JETs!
I have had several friends in the program and one family member. I have visited the website several times, but I'm not sure if the program is right for me. Maybe you all can offer some advice?
I have experience traveling and teaching English overseas. Currently, I teach a population of refugee and immigrant 5th graders in Denver, Colorado, USA. I have a masters in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (ESL).
I am disappointed that the JET program offers only Assistant Teacher positions. (Yea, I saw the coaching positions and one other that was not interesting.) I am a passionate, experienced teacher. I don't want to be an "assistant." Does JET offer higher level positions to applicants who qualify?
Other recommendations...thoughts?? Thanks!
Reply to this JET only has the three positions: ALT, CIR & SEA.
Around 90% go as ALT. You would quite probably have the opportunity to either take over a community English conversation class - or if there isn't one already, start one.
Reply to this I have been to japan and it was through hakuho foundation and you can look that as well !!
