Whats the best way to store the photos you take using a digital camra? i want to send all of my photos somewhere so i cant lose them in case my camra gets stolen etc. any suggestions would be great!
Reply to this Hi Todd,
I always backup my photos onto both my netbook and portable hard drive.
Portable Hard-Drive
If you are wanting to send a copy of them home, you could make copies onto a couple of dvds. Don't send the second one until you know the first one has made it home.
Reply to this You can also upload them to a photo hosting site (such as a Pro account on Flickr).
The big advantages of this are i) the pictures are now stored somewhere that isn't physically with you so if all your luggage is lost/stolen you'll still have them, and ii) the back-up processes used by a corporation like Flickr are robust enough to mean that a hardware failure on their side should be transparent to you.
The big disadvantage is that, especially if you take a lot of pictures, uploading to Flickr can be time-consuming (and hence expensive), even if you have your own laptop and a great Internet connection. Fine if you have a fast free connection and can just leave it running overnight, but otherwise maybe not a viable option.
As Jo mentions, the CD/DVD route is another possibility. I did this for most of my travels - kept one copy and sent another home.
