Me and my girlfriend are visiting New York City for one week in late March and need to book accommodation for the week.
Any suggestions on where to base ourselves - the ideal place would be within 10 miles of NYC with a good transport link, and our budget is between $500-$600 for the week's accommodation. We can easily handle non-luxorious/sparse accommodation, but I've been put off by a few reviews of cheaper places being really dirty.
If you've no experience of particular hotels, still feel free to mention any areas/suburbs that make decent areas to stay to explore NYC.
Thanks in advance,
Phil & Em
Reply to this Not sure if it helps but when I visited New York we stayed in a hotel not far from Newark airport (Ramanda Inn) in New Jersey which was quite cheap. We used the hotels airport shuttle to get to the airport and then the airports monorail to get to Newark Airport Train Station from which we could get a train right into New York Penn station ($30 return) it took approximately an hour to get from airport into New York and Vice Versa
Reply to this If you want to stay on the Jersey side of things for cost, I would pick Hoboken over Newark, but then again I absolutely detest having to go back and forth between Newark and Manhattan so I'm probably just jaded and biased. Not the prettiest area though, for sure.
Or check out the other side - staying in Brooklyn or Queens along the subway that will quickly take you into Manhattan. Park Slope, Brooklyn for example, is convenient but also a lovely neighborhood in and of itself.
