Hi,
We are traveling to Chile, Santiago and mostly south at the end of March.
We will be visiting for a couple of weeks and are looking for information
on how much US money to convert and bring with us as well as tipping etiquette.
Sorry, I searched for this on these forums but can't seem to find this info.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Reply to this You don't want to change money to pesos before you come. You will get a terrible exchange rate. There are ATM machines at the airport and all over the country. There is a per transaction charge with an ATM here, but I believe Scotiabank and Banco Estado do not charge it.
Chile does not have the tipping culture of some other countries. 10% in a restaurant would be the norm, unless it has been added to the bill. A few restaurants do this, but it has to be clear on the bill that it is a service charge and not obligatory. You do not tip taxis but usually round up the fare if you want.
