Within the space of a month we are now on our third little break (we are not bragging even though it may seem that way!) - this one the official summer holiday (part 1). Enforced by leave running out at the end of June (poor us, I hear you say!). Actually, it was a great time to go away - the benefit from being outside of the peak holiday period - paying for 3 now makes a bit of a difference!
The selection criteria for this holiday was as follows:
• Somewhere close - within a few hours flying
• Somewhere warm
• Somewhere you can fly to from Luton (our local airport)
• Somewhere with a pool, easy walking distance to restaurants, and family friendly
After plenty of searching we settled on Majorca - Cala D'Or - annoyingly for the same price we could have gone to Sri Lanka - but the thought of the flight and monsoon meant we decided against it - maybe next time! In ten years or so!
So, first time to Majorca and more than pleasantly surprised. Quite a neat and compact island, our hotel served us well and had all we needed,
pool for Heidi, pool for us, icecreams for Heidi, icecreams for us and a cot for Hector. It was a family biased hotel with basic but functional rooms that had black out curtains so we managed a few lie ins.
Our week was spent doing very little, lounging by the pool, watching Heidi with her new found inflatable pet crocodile in the pool, watching Heidi squirt other kids in the pool (uninvited) and then see the other kids go screaming to their parents (whoops), visiting a few local beaches, eating, being lazy and 1 day trip. The day trip included a two hour coach journey following the windy, steep roads of Majorca that cyclists who compete in the Tour de France train on, a trip to a leather factory/shop where I bought a handbag (and so would of Heidi if she had any Euros!), a boat trip to the Puerto de Soller, a tram ride up to Soller and a train ride from Soller back to Palma. All in all, a good day out, Soller was very beautiful but it was a fleeting visit as we had to rush and catch the train to meet our coach, shame but
Majorca
No fear something we have to get used to on package day trips out....
Cala d'or is a nice place, bit brits abroad but not too tacky. There are loads of places to eat out with restaurants where you picked from a picture to posher places that had a view of the lovely marina and a written menu only (luckily we could read)...really the sole difference was the price, oh and the view 😊 Everyone was super friendly and our evenings were a chilled affair and as Heidi stayed up late she slept in late - bliss.
Heidi and Hector had a lovely time too, when asked what was her favourite part of the holiday, she chirped "the taxi" (the one from Luton airport) - won't bother with the holiday next time!
